Redmi Pad - The KING of cheap tablets is among us

The Tablet market after suffering a decline has seen a resurgence in terms of interest and sales, probably supported by the pandemic that has forced us to live at home by adopting communication strategies such as smart working e distance teaching. To believe in this technological sector we find brands like Xiaomi that with its Pad 5 (here the review) addressed the masses in an overbearing way thanks to a excellent value for money and now it's the turn of Redmi Pad, the brand's first tablet, which incorporates the essence of Xiaomi Pad 5 but at an even cheaper price. So let's find out together in this one review.

REDMI PAD - CHEAP BUT WITH PREMIUM DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

As mentioned before, Redmi Pad is a cheap tablet but not for this he renounces one top construction as well as a design that does not go unnoticed. Made in one monocoque entirely in metal, including profiles, whose thickness è only 7,5 mm with weight of 465 grams, while the rest of the measurements are equal to 250.38 x 157.98. Perfect weight balance which contributes to a excellent grip, thanks also to the squared but not sharp profiles, allowing you to grip the tablet even with a single hand.

The rear is interrupted only by a photographic form which recalls the style of the smartphones just presented by Xiaomi and which integrates a8 MP optics but without LED flash. Redmi Pad is available in 3 different colors, such as the Graphite Gray, Mint Green e Moonlight Silver while the IP52 certification, which makes it resistant to water and dust.

Redmi SoundPad

On the lower profile we find nothing while specularly we have the volume balance wheel, well two microphones which perform wonderfully audio capture in the video call and then the slot to expand the built-in memory with support for micro SD cards up to 1TB. On the other hand, the LTE module is absent, so for mobile use you will always have to take advantage of public hotspots or the connection of your smartphone, relying on a module Wi-Fi 5 2.4GHz / 5GHz. On the left profile we have two gods four stereo speakers and the power button, while on the right, together with the other two speakers that support the technology Dolby Atmos we have the USB Type-C charging port, with function OTG to connect peripherals such as mice and keyboards but no video output.

Also absent is a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device, which will therefore only take place by means of a pin / pattern or by face recognition by means of the selfie camera. The latter is a pleasant surprise, not only for video quality but also for the fact that it was positioned in the center of the longest side of Redmi Pad, considering that generally when making video calls, the tablet is positioned in landscape mode, obtaining a central and not a side shot.

As already mentioned, the audio is entrusted to four speakers positioned symmetrically along the bezels of the device, releasing a very high quality sound thanks to Dolby Atmos support, with high volume but without distortions, indeed the bass is present without overwhelming the others. medium-high frequencies. However, the 3,5 mm jack is missing, so if you want to get some privacy or not to annoy the neighbors while listening to music, watching TV series or other, you will have to use a USB-C / Jack 3.5 mm adapter, to be purchased separately as it is not included in the package, or pair TWS headphones by means of Bluetooth 5.3.

GOOD DISPLAY BUT POCO VOTED OUTSIDE THE DOOR

Redmi Pad relies on a panel with technology IPS LCD from 10,61 in with form factor in 15: 9, whose resolution goes up to 2K (2000 x 1200 pixels) which is accompanied by the presence of a refresh rate to 90 Hz, a more than enough refresh rate to play any content smoothly and give a premium feeling to the display (there is the Dynamic Switch function to automatically adjust the frequency based on the content displayed and save additional battery). In terms of image quality we can't really complain, getting well defined and realistic colors although, in consideration of the IPS technology adopted, the vision suffers a hair in the strong angles.

Redmi Pad video streaming

Present support for certificates DRM Widevine L1, recognized by all streaming services including Amazon Prime Video, but we do not have HDR support, a deficiency that does not stand out too much while the peak brightness value of the panel is more annoying, which reaches only 400 nits and which therefore causes poor visibility under direct sunlight. The frames that surround the display are pronounced just right, without exaggeration, but still symmetrical, affirming a valuable design to the whole tablet.

SAME HARDWARE AS POCO M5 BUT BETTER OPTIMIZED

A tablet like Redmi Pad, you buy it as well as watching multimedia content also to spend a few hours of good fun. Redmi's technological creature is animated by the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, Or the same CPU seen on POCO M5 (here the review), which had not thrilled us on the contrary, but here it debuts for the first time in the tablet world and the final result is totally opposite to that of POCO M5. Let's talk about a processor with production process at 6nm, solution 2.2 GHz octa-Core (6 Cortex A76 cores and 2 Cortex A55 cores) which is flanked by the GPU MALI G57, while the memory cuts RAM used are from 3/4/6 GB of LPDDR4X type e 64/128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage (variants available 3/64, 4/128 and 6/128 GB).

In terms of performance Redmi Pad does not disappoint at all, allowing itself to run quite important gaming titles, certainly giving up some graphic details, but gameplay is always smooth and never snappy. The user experience in everyday life is also pleasant, both in the office and in the multimedia environment, returning positive feedback in every area of use. We specify, Redmi Pad is not a tablet to play but even the most complex and fastest titles can be played satisfactorily, but probably if you approach a tablet like him you will be more of a casual gamer and therefore you will be fully satisfied, getting a fast and fluid user experience, also thanks to the 90 Hz display.

MIUI FOR PAD IS A GUARANTEE FOR PERFORMANCE

Accomplice of the good execution of the tasks entrusted to Redmi Pad is the software, which runs on a base Android 12 with patches updated to September 2022 and graphic customization MIUI For Pad, that is the version of MIUI 13 for smartphones but here specifically designed for tablets, where splitscreen, floating windows and multiwindows (modes that also work using the tablet in portrait mode), new widgets but also the convenient iPad-style dock, which will allow quick access to your favorite apps, are an extra gear to be exploited even in the business environment, all seasoned with pleasant and fluid animations. In addition, the company has guaranteed that its tablet will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.

SELFIE CAMERA GREAT FOR PROFESSIONAL VIDEO CALLS

Redmi Pad like the rest of the tablet category is not born with the aim of being exploited as a photographic medium to which to entrust one's memories, but there is a certain positive amazement as regards shots and videos captured by the two optics present, a rear camera from 8 MP and a selfie lens with the same resolution. Both sensors used allow you to record video in Full HD at 30 fps.

I certainly do not mention shots and videos in night mode, it would be crazy to think of taking home something decent with these lenses, especially with a tablet, but overall the photos captured are well usable although I must admit that I have seen some difficulty with HDR for selfie shots and inaccurate details with both cameras. However the 8 MP of this really makes sense for video calls or meetings, resulting even better than the classic webcam integrated into PC / Laptop, capturing even more light.

BATTERY DIFFICULT TO THROW DOWN

One thing Redmi Pad does not skimp on is autonomy, guaranteed by one battery from 8000 mAh. Certainly the hardware used plays in favor, pushing the use with single recharge also to 4 full days, using it assiduously. We have the quick charging (so to speak) at 18W, always guaranteed by charger in pack that goes up to 22.5W. However, the full of energy will occur in about 2 and a half hours.

Redmi Pad - PRICE AND CONSIDERATIONS

Redmi Pad is for sale on the official store with a starting price of 299,90€ for the 3 / 64 GB version e € 349,90 for the 4/128 GB. Official prices in my opinion high, but fortunately it is street price it was not long in coming and so you can take the tablet home directly da Amazon with a price of almost 100 euros lower for the 4/128 GB version. Below you will find a summary with the best offers, which I advise you not to miss. Redmi Pad is a well-made and efficient tablet in every task: 90 Hz display, adequate performance, premium construction, infinite autonomy, stereo sound and much more. I'm sure you won't regret your purchase.

Nerd, Geek, Netizen, terms that do not belong to me. Simply myself, technology lover and provocative as Xiaomi does with his products. High quality at fair prices, a real provocation for the other most famous brands.
