The megapixel race: this way we could call this parenthesis that opened a few days ago and that seems to have ended today, so to speak, with 'sofficial announcement from Samsung of what had already been said last week during the presentation of the first 64 megapixel sensor on a Xiaomi device. We are talking about the photographic mega sensor from 108 megapixel born of collaboration between Samsung and Xiaomi, which will be mounted on the next top of the Chinese company and probably also the Korean one: the name is Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX. Let's see together what it is in detail.
ISOCELL Bright HMX will be Xiaomi-Samsung's 108 megapixel sensor
In reality this is not the first photographic sensor born from the close partnership of the two companies: even the last one 64 megapixel ISOCELL GW1 is from the Korean house. This new gem, which allows stunning performances and that will be used first of all by Xiaomi, promises really well also considering the notoriety and the quality of the previous sensors of the brand.
Equally to the 64 megapixel sensor GW1, also the Bright HMX will be equipped with a image sensor from 0.8 microns, one of the smallest currently on the market, but the substantial difference lies in the size of thetarget opening that amounts to 1.33 ". It goes without saying that the quality of the photographs taken at the hands of this sensor will be stunning, considering also that they will be equipped with a resolution of 12032 x 9024, comparable to high end reflex. In technical terms the operation of the Bright HMX allows a greater absorption of light in low light conditions thanks also to technology Tetracell and ISOCELL Plus with which the Korean company is sparking in recent times.
For the most inattentive we remember that the work of a sensor with technology ISOCELL allows a device with camera from 16 megapixel, for example in the case of the last GW1, of group 4 pixels in 1 doing so the work of a 64 megapixel camera. Similarly, thanks to the same technology, the Samsung Bright HMX will take photographs from 27 megapixel which, grouped in 4, will form a sensor from well 108.
In addition to the resolution of this sensor, we also have another important thing that will bring significant differences compared to other cameras: lartificial intelligence that moves the Smart-ISO technology. As you will understand from the name it will allow the sensor to intelligently and automatically choose the most suitable ISO for perfect photography. Moreover, the video format supported by this sensor has exceeded the resolution record that we are now accustomed to consider the highest: we went from a resolution to 4K (× 4096 2160 pixels) to that from 6K (6016 3384 pixels x). Obviously we talk, at least for now, about 30 fps but it is not excluded (indeed, it will certainly be so) that the next generation sensor will support 60 fps.
