Challenge between Titans: Comparison Snapdragon 835 vs. 820 821

In this second quarter of the year, they will launch on the smartphone market that will mount the Snapdragon 835 chip, among which Xiaomi Mi 6, the next week and then the Samsung Galaxy S8, still not officially released in China for precedence agreements with Xiaomi. But what are the new processor updates to the previous generation SD 820? Let's find out in this little comparison.

Comparison-SD-835-Xiaomi-Mi-6

First of all, the first difference lies in the different microarchitecture of the CPU cores and in a different production process of the semiconductors, for which we go from 14nm to 10nm. In theSD820 the semiconductor used is a Samsung FinFET a 14nm, while in the 'SD835 the last production process is used 10nm: the production process largely determines the level of energy consumed by the chip, so the more advanced the process and therefore the lower the numbers of nm and the lower the energy consumption. It goes without saying that in this respect the Snapdragon 835

In the image below you can see the size of the two processors we are talking about and also a small run of previous CPUs from 28nm (28LP).

The second eye-catching change is that the number of core CPUs will double, from the four core of Qualcomm 820 to eight core of835, even if this is given a bit ephemeral, since the number of cores alone cannot give the strength of a smartphone chip. Just think that Apple's A-series CPU like the latest A10 Fusion is only quad-core but gives excellent performance, especially in single core tests. But for the Qualcomm processor series, the number of cores in relation to performance is still important and the Snapdragon 820 is at a disadvantage in multi-core tests compared to its successor. Furthermore, the SD835 uses a maximum frequency of 2,45GHz, much wider than that of the SD820, which also happens with regard to the GPU: Adreno 540 with a maximum frequency of 670MHz for the former and Adreno 530 with a maximum frequency of 624MHz. for the second.

For mobile devices, their performance determines their use and how they behave with particularly demanding apps such as games and internet access, the baseband (literally, the baseband, the device's radio interface) is really important. The latest Qualcomm 835 processor comes with the baseband X16 with the highest downlink value - Ed .: the link from a satellite to a receiving station - exactly 1Gbps which gives an impressive performance, while the SD820 SoC is equipped with an X12 baseband with a 600Mbps downlink which is more than sufficient for home mobile phone users under 4G + network. The ability of the X16 modem may well be exploited to the full when 5G is introduced and more commonly used.

Another very important aspect to consider in this comparison is the ability to recharge your smartphone quickly but safely: the new Qualcomm chip, in fact, supports the Quick Charge 4.0, which, depending on what is known by the international big corporation, provides a speed increase in 20% and 30% replenishment in efficiency compared to the previous QC3.0 supported by SD820.

To conclude our small comparison, we can say that surely the new Snapdragon processor will be more efficient in consumption and will have higher performance than its predecessor, but in daily use it may be that the user does not realize the difference, even if this has yet to be tested by running a full performance test with a retail terminal.

And you, what are you going to do? Will you immediately buy a new smartphone with SD835 processor or wait for the results of various test runs?

I have an OP3T and I'm finding myself very well, I think it is the best smartphone ever of 2016 and for 2017 it is still ahead of everyone despite the evolution of the various Samsung LG etc ...
The 821 snap keeps me always in the evening with an extremely stressful use, often with a nice 30% and coming home at 23: 30 from the 7: 00 in the morning !!
But I have to admit that this snap 835 tickles me and if I go out OP5 I will also buy him as I've done so far with all my Oneplus !!

But having a terminal with SD820, I will definitely wait for the next SD evolution.
Anyway, great chip.
