Qualcomm quietly unveiled its new smartphone processor Snapdragon 6 Gen3, a chipset that promises to deliver top-notch performance on budget smartphones. But what makes it really special? Some details reveal that it is a revised version of an existing model, but with a few hidden surprises.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Official: Specs and Features
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, known by the model number SM6475-AB, is designed to power affordable smartphones, delivering better performance than previous models. This platform features 4 Cortex-A78 cores at 2.4GHz focused on performance and 4 Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz for energy efficiency. Together with the Adreno GPU 710 and support for RAM LPDDR4x e L, the chipset promises speed and reliability, ensuring a smooth user experience.
Its greater similarity to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, however, has raised some questions. Both chipsets use the same core and GPU configuration, but there is a difference key: The 7s Gen 2 supports a 144Hz refresh rate at FHD+ resolution, while the 6s Gen 3 does not. Otherwise, there is no significant new information, suggesting that Qualcomm has simply re-released the same processor under a different name.
In practice, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 looks like a under-optimized version of the 7s Gen 2, designed for devices that do not require high refresh rate displays, but aim to remain competitive in terms of overall performance.
Those who want to buy a cheap smartphone could therefore find themselves with a device with aexcellent value for money, without necessarily having to give up processing speed. Needless to say, Xiaomi, realme and Oppo will be the first phone brands to use this processor. As usual, they are in pole position when it comes to coming first in a performance race.
