During the Snapdragon Summit 2022 annual conference, Qualcomm presented his new processor Snapdragon 8 Gen2. The SoC will equip the top-of-the-range smartphones that will be presented in the future. The company promises a new standard for computing, containing artificial intelligence throughout the component to improve experiences. As we expected, Xiaomi 13 Pro will debut with this chipset.
Qualcomm officially presents Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: the new mobile SoC integrates ray tracing, Wi-Fi 7 and support for 200 megapixel cameras. Xiaomi 13 Pro will surpass all
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the first Snapdragon chipset to support the format AI Precision INT4, for a 60% performance improvement per Watt per inference. The dual processors featured in the Qualcomm Sensing Hub now support custom wake words. As for Snapdragon Elite Gaming, the novelty of this generation is the Ray Tracing with real-time hardware acceleration. Therefore, games now have realism in light, reflections and lighting.
Adreno GPU and Kryo CPU upgrades (1x 3,2GHz + 4x 2,8GHz + 3x 2,0GHz) respectively allow up to 25% more performance and up to 40% more energy efficiency. The new Snapdragon X70 modem is present, which makes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 the first from Qualcomm to support 5G + 5G / 4G Dual-SIM Dual-Active, to simultaneously take advantage of theue SIM with fifth generation network. The new Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 stands out to deliver Wi-Fi 7 for lower latency and Bluetooth with dual connectivity.
As for the Snapdragon Sight platform, the highlight is the presence of the first cognitive ISP. In practice, photos and videos are enriched in real time with semantic segmentation from a neutral network to allow the camera to get the best result in faces, facial features, hair, clothes and sky. The new chip will continue to support the technology Quad Digital Overlay HDR from Sony, as well as receiving optimizations for the 3 megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP200 sensor. The processor, however, supports the AV1 codec and recordings up to 8K HDR at 60 fps.
