We are almost at the end of the year, Christmas has not yet arrived but Qualcomm gave us good news for the 2019: in fact during the "2018 Qualcomm 4G / 5G Summit"Which started today in Hong Kong and will end the 24 October, the same Qualcomm has reconfirmed which OEM companies will use the baseband Snapdragon X50 starting from 2019.
In particular, we have companies like Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, Sony Mobile, Motorola, Asus, Wyatt, Fujitsu, HMD, HTC, Inseego / Novatel Wireless, LG Electronics, NetComm, NETGEAR, Sharp, Sierra, Telit, Kailu Technology (WNC) and others.
I partner of the pioneering 5G initiative include Lenovo, OPPO, vivo, Wentai, Xiaomi and ZTE.
Qualcomm states that Snapdragon X50 is the world's first 5G baseband. It is based on a 28 processor nm with a peak of 5 Gbps. Supports a high frequency millimeter wave and an intermediate frequency Sub 6GHz.
The 5G frequency band for China is up to 6 GHz while for Italy, to know something more, we will have to wait until the 2020. Or rather, something is already known: for the most "lucky" cities like Milan, Prato, Bari, Matera, L'Aquila and maybe Roma e Torino, something should start moving in the 2019. For other large Italian cities, unfortunately, it will be necessary to wait for the start of the service of telephone operators active on the Italian territory that will be awarded the frequencies, by tender, next September. So the process will start between the 2019 and the 2020 but it will probably run at full capacity in the 2020.
Furthermore, Snapdragon 835 / 845 and the new 7nm SoC will be compatible with the baseband Snapdragon X50 5G. At the moment, Xiaomi has announced that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 that the 25 October will arrive will be the first 5G commercial smartphone.
All this to say that we should prepare (and we should also prepare the wallet) to a new revolution in smarphone, given that, according to Qualcomm, from the 2019 many top of the range of brands listed above will be equipped with this baseband.
