Most Xiaomi fans criticized the company's choice to enter one battery from 3300 mAh on the three models of My 9. Immediately the choice to reduce the battery capacity compared to Mi 8 seemed a senseless gesture. Today we offer some tests made by GSMarena that could make you change your mind ... See you!
Xiaomi Mi 9, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 8: three smartphones, three batteries compared
The three smartphones chosen for comparison, as you read from the title, are the Xiaomi Mi 8, the newborn My 9 and the highly appreciated Huawei Mate 2o Pro. For completeness we report the technical data sheets of the three devices:
- SoC Snapdragon 845
- SuperAMOLED display from 6.21 "
- 6 / 8 GB of RAM memory
- Battery from 3400 mAh
- SoC Snapdragon 855
- AMOLED display from 6.39 "
- 6 / 8 GB of RAM memory
- Battery from 3300 mAh
- SoC Kyrin 980
- AMOLED display from 6.39 "
- 6 / 8 GB of RAM memory
- Battery from 4200 mAh
As you can test yourself, the batteries of the three smartphones are practically equivalent and the performance in terms of autonomy depends on other parameters such as processor, display and software optimization to name a few. For the record, know that the test was not performed by a natural person who spent all the time hacking on the phones (poor otherwise!) But it is the result of an automation program that simulates the use in everyday life.
The test then performs a session of one hour of phone calls in 3G, one hour of web browsing in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and one of video playback with 50% brightness: it is then calculated how many hours in total you are able to making phone calls, browsing and video playback and, then, an endurance rating is calculated.
Explained the test ... let's look at the results immediately. What are you saying?
Two important considerations emerge from the results: first of all, the duration indicator does not mean that, since with a phone you can make longer sessions, this has a longer lasting battery. Proof of this is the comparison between Mi 8 and Mate 20 Pro. The Huawei device, in fact, although it allows to perform sessions of phone calls, video playback and web browsing more durable, reaches a value of 85h (91 with energy saving) compared to 86h of Mi 8.
This means that if Huawei Mate 20 Pro had the same battery as Mi 8 (3400 mAh), the two devices would have almost identical autonomy.
The second consideration concerns instead the test on Xiaomi Mi 9 which, according to the images shown, denies criticism with an indicator of duration equal to 91h. Taking these results with the pliers, it should be noted that the display of Mi 9 is not a SuperAMOLED like that of Mi 8 and therefore it is plausible that the last born of the Xiaomi house can actually consume less in this respect.
Another important note concerns the processors. Xiaomi Mi 9 it is the first device that mounts one Snapdragon 855 so it's no wonder that the choice of Qualcomm to focus on 7 nm for the construction of his chipset may actually have made the difference.
In fact, as reported by those who have already had the opportunity to try the My 9 before the launch, the battery from 3300 mAh flanked by the excellent Snapdragon 855 - defined highly efficient - is able to bring in the evening (from 8.00 to 22.00) the average user with the 40% of residual autonomy. Similar speech in case of stressful days for the phone that resists until the evening with a good 15% residual.
And how does Xiaomi Mi 9 behave while charging?
The last test carried out concerned the capacity and the recharge speed of the Xiaomi Mi 9. It has been verified that with a QC3.0 charger from 18W the device has recharged up to 45% in half an hour, while with a QC4.0 charger from 27W reached 70% in the same period of time. Different speech for the wireless charger presented yesterday from 20W that did not show exorbitant results: in 30 minutes the 9 Mi has reloaded up to 30%.
- QC3.0 (18W) Battery Charger - 45% in 30 minutes
- QC4.0 (27W) Battery Charger - 70% in 30 minutes
- 2.0 wireless recharge (20W) - 30% in 30 minutes
