This is why you should think about unlocking the bootloader on your Xiaomi smartphone

A few minutes ago we posted a news about it Stop Updating by the Xiaomi brand, towards some of its most popular smartphones, which translates into not receiving the new MIUI functions, but above all also the major Android releases. On that occasion we also assumed that for the users of these devices it was time to approach the wonders of modding, the first step of which is to unlock the bootloader of the device, thus allowing us to install other ROMs.

Of course, other users can also move into the world of modding, without waiting for the company to no longer support the smartphone, relying for example on MIUI-based ROMs such as xiaomi.eu, which adapts the functions relegated to the developer version of MIUI but purified. Chinese services by integrating those Google instead. In short, a different way to experience the new features long before they reach the official version of MIUI, all in Italian.

This is why you should think about unlocking the bootloader on your Xiaomi smartphone

All this leads us to one of the reasons why unlocking the bootloader of your smartphone is an advantage, as this operation does not mean a loss of warranty unless the process is performed improperly with the consequent blocking of the device. The bootloader unlocking process is reversible, being able to always return to an original and official MIUI ROM.

bootloader

We mentioned it before, or the possibility of trying the latest MIUI news on our smartphone, through the ROMs compiled by the xiaomi.eu team, without having to wait for the global release by Xiaomi, where often the new features are limited and the new MIUI 12.5 is an example.  In fact, if we install the xiaomi.EU ROM on our smartphone, being based on the beta version of the Chinese MIUI, we will constantly have all kinds of news.

Another advantage in unlocking the bootloader is then being able to try new ROMs, with interfaces different from MIUI, sometimes similar to the Android Stock experience provided by Pixel terminals and / or in any case being able to take advantage of the latest security patches and Android operating system, when the your smartphone is not included in the list of those that will be officially updated. Making use of other more basic ROMs often also coincides with the absence of specific bugs that instead often accompany the reputation of MIUI.

And whether it is xiaomi.eu or other sites such as XDA, unlocking the bootloader brings us to the comparison with a large community that gravitates around the world of modding, specific for Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO, allowing us to find solutions to any errors and answers to doubts, which too many times the MIUI insiders themselves do not know how to provide.

bootloader

Obviously, unlocking the bootloader opens up a world of possibilities since we can have ROOT access or even install an infinity of Magisk modules that will expand the possibilities of our Xiaomi. Thanks to the modules we can regain access to call recording or even hide that we have the bootloader unlocked and then continue to use Google Pay.

In conclusion, modding often allows you to give new life to terminals that are abandoned from official support because they are defined as obsolete, but which actually have a lot to express in terms of potential and functionality.

Hi, excellent article, exhaustive. However, unlocking the bootloader entails a series of limitations for the phone, such as the inability to use NFC for security reasons, or netflix that does not install from the store, etc. I personally have an unlocked MI8 and can't use NFC. I have read about many attempts made with magisk but they all went wrong. Are there alternative solutions? I was thinking of installing the CM rom but I think it doesn't solve the NFC problem.
