The Beelink GT-King Pro S922X-H: Definitive TV Box Review!

The world of TV Boxes is seeing a glimmer of light again at the end of the tunnel, also thanks (or because of) the new switch off that we are about to face. Who in September will be in possession of non-smart and old-fashioned TVs, will probably be able to modernize their living room by opting for a TV Box.

La Beelink GT King Pro essentially this is proposed. With high-end specifications, the Beelink TV Box combines an aesthetic that is far too flashy to be displayed in the living room with some screaming specifications.

We are talking about an exa-core processor Amlogic S922X-H of the latest generation and a connectivity sector that promise to play video files of 4K resolution up to 75fps.

In fact, we find a Gigabit LAN connectivity (with RJ45 port) and Wi-Fi 6 (a / b / g / n / ac / ax) dual band (2.4 / 5.8GHz), as well as 4 GB of RAM memory and 64 GB of internal storage expandable comfortably with an SD (available already in the package) thanks to the door on the side elevation.

Speaking of expandability we must also mention the 3 3.0 USB ports and the USB 2.0 port, recommended to easily pair the remote control in the package. Speaking of the latter, I found an excellent response using the pointer / mouse function, but two limitations: I could not get the voice commands to work (probably due to Google limitations) and the lack of multimedia control keys.

Also interesting is the possibility of using soundbars equipped with SPDIF optical fiber connection, thanks to the RS232 port.

The connection with the TV is really immediate and very simple. Just connect the supplied HDMI cable and power supply. The remote control (wireless!) Is coupled directly by inserting the adapter into the USB 2.0 port identified by the word OTG. The game is done!

The on and off button, very convenient and not always present on similar and - why not - even more competitive models, allows you to easily switch on and avoid overheating of the "box".

Personally I do not feel like recommending it for those who do not have space behind their TV as the aesthetic aspect (the skull) is not the best, if put on display in the living room. If, on the other hand, you manage to hide it, you will not encounter any problems in use and you will not ruin the context of your multimedia station.

Moving on to the software sector, the interface is that of a classic Android TV Box. Apart from customizing Beelink, the use does not transcend the classic Google functions: the Integrated Play Store will allow you to download and take advantage of all the applications available in the Android world.
A small clarification is necessary, however: some of these apps will recognize the device as a tablet and therefore you will have to take a little hand (and eyes). Nothing to worry about, since you just need to switch to full screen mode to bring the contents of apps such as DAZN, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and all those that come to your mind. Let's not forget that from September (the switch off of TV frequencies has already been confirmed) a decoder will be needed for older TVs and a TV Box could be the solution to watch Mediaset and Rai channels via an app or website.

Sore point of this TV Box is the absence of the Widevine certification, which will not allow you to enjoy Netflix and Prime Video content in Full HD and higher resolutions. Really a shame, given the price of the GT King Pro (about 130 euro).

As you can see in the video review (which you find at the top of the page), I wanted to try playing two files directly from USB to check the buffering times. The low-end TV Boxes, in fact, suffer from slow buffering due to the not exceptional components: the Beelink however surprised me positively! Loading was smooth with both a standard 576p resolution file and a 4K movie in .mkv format.
La GT King Pro it also behaves very well with regard to fast forwarding: there are practically no differences between an Android TV and this “magic” box in loading times. If you want proof of what is written, click play below!

In the video review you will also find a small comparison test on playing 4K videos directly from Youtube. With the same connectivity conditions - same Wi-Fi network with 5 GHz band - the video is loaded and reproduced smoothly, and without any audio distortion.

I had tried several TV Boxes but this one, at least for my personal use, is satisfactory and I think I will add it to my second home TV to make it a bit smarter and to take advantage of the TV channels that, from next September, will no longer come picked up by my TV tuner.
Nothing illegal, mind you. You just need a trivial browser or install the RaiPlay, Mediaset Play apps to easily watch Italian channels.

And now, try it for yourself!
