As a music lover I am always attracted by headphones that can allow me to listen optimally. In recent years, technology has evolved and does not always bring great improvements and in this case I must say that audio transmission via BT has almost reached the level of cable transmission, although it must be said that the matter is more complex than it might seem. In fact, we have many data transmission codecs via BT and if we want a headphone that uses the best we must enter the mindset of spending a lot of money. But in this case we will also have to verify that these codecs are supported by the smartphone from which we transmit the music (smartphone or any other device). Today I will tell you about a low cost but really interesting product: over ear headphones Tronsmart Soundfii Q20 which even allow us to take advantage of active noise cancellation (ANC).
Before talking to you about the headphones I will make a mention of the two most important technologies that are implemented in our product, namely TWS and ANC
TWS (True Wireless Stereo)
With the advent of BT 5.0, this excellent technology has also arrived, which has significantly improved the audio quality of headphones that support it. This allows you to pair two audio devices together via BT, transmitting audio information separately on the left and right channels. In this way, thanks also to the greater power and stability of BT 5.0 (or higher), the audio will be clearer and without any interference. All this translates into a very high range of listenable frequencies and this makes our listening qualitatively at the same level as our old wired headphones. Naturally, it will also depend on the quality of the product you buy... you cannot compare an old €100 wired headphone with a €20 TWS earphone, but if we go for more or less similar costs we will have more or less the same quality without the bulk of the cable! As for health, don't worry because BT devices fall WELL within the tolerance limits of electromagnetic waves. Updates to BT versions continue to improve every aspect mentioned above. TWS devices also have the ability to be paired with two devices simultaneously.
ANC
ANC, active noise cancellation, is the active or passive technology that allows you to reduce the background noise that we have around us in the most disparate situations (shopping center, subway, office, bar, etc.). But how does it work? Well, the passive one is simply the one used by the large pavilions of over-ear headphones like ours. But here we are talking about the active one, the ANC chipset will control, via a microphone external to the headphones, how much and what type of noise surrounds us, and with a speaker inside it will create an opposite sound waveform to cancel the external noise (to make you understand better it would be like having a +5 sound outside and creating an equal and opposite one inside -5 to cancel it). Naturally, the use of the ANC Chipset will have a significant impact on the autonomy of the headphones which on average will reduce by 50%.

CONTROL KEYS – INPUTS Tronsmart Soundfii Q20
Our Tronsmart Soundfii Q20 have several function keys and 2 inputs
- Type C input: you will need it to charge the headphones (5V)
- 3.5mm audio jack input:
- On/Off button: Turns headphones on/off, plays/pauses, calls voice assistant
- ANC button: activate and deactivate active noise cancellation
- “+” button: increase volume, skip next track
- “-“ button: decreases volume, skips previous track
As you can see we have an incredible gem that I find for the first time on headphones of this segment, namely the3.5mm audio input. Well yes, if you are old school and do not tolerate loss of audio quality through the classic wireless BT connection you can also enjoy wired quality through the 3.5mm input. Included you will find a cable with 3.5mm audio jack (male-male) that you can use with your smartphone, tablet, PC and any other device that uses it, thus enjoying excellent sound quality.
BLUETOOTH CODEC
As regards the Bluetooth audio quality, we are at the basic one, that is the audio codec. SBC. The issue of audio codecs is really very complex and I can summarize it this way: codecs create an encoding (and consequently decoding) of the original audio signal, with more or less compression, to be transmitted over the airwaves in a digital way. An example of an uncompressed codec is FLAC while a compressed one is MP3.
Then there are many Bluetooth codecs: SBC, AAC, LC3, LDAC, aptX, LHDC which differ in the audio quality they can transmit based on the encoding bitrate. But I remind you that it is not enough to have headphones that support an excellent codec because then we must also have the device that transmits the signal (smartphone, tablet, PC, etc.) that supports the same codec. To understand, let's take this example: if my headphones support the LDAC codec but my smartphone only the SBC then the transmission will occur in SBC which is the basic standard that all BT devices must support.
So, to come to our tronsmart we will be able to receive the audio signal in SBC which has the following characteristics:
- Maximum bitrate: 345kbps
- Bit depth: 16 bits
- Maximum frequency: 48kHz
- Latency: ~ 200ms
Let's be clear, to recognize the qualitative differences between an excellent codec and the basic SBC you should be a true connoisseur. What I would advise against, however, if you are buying them for that, given the fairly high latency, do not buy these headphones for video games. For the rest they will be fine.
APPLICATIONS
Well yes, our Q20 can also be connected to the dedicated Tronsmart application and adjust some parameters via the app. We can set the equalization, update the firmware of the headphones, pause/play/skip the audio tracks we are listening to, increase/decrease the volume, turn off the headphones, set a shutdown timer, in short, so many functions at our disposal. To get it, do this: search for the “TRONSMART” application in your smartphone store, install it, enable location and BT, select language, go to the “headphones” tab and select “Tronsmart Sounfii Q20”.
Once the headphones are detected, you will find yourself in the home where you will have the volume and controls for the audio you are listening to in the foreground. At the bottom there are 3 tabs, home – equalizer – sound. Click on the equalizer icon and you can select 5 preset curves or change them manually by clicking on “customize”.
In the sound menu you can activate or deactivate active noise reduction ANC, enable or disable voice feedback and turn off the headphones.
At the top right we will then have the settings menu from which we can set a shutdown timer, update the firmware, disconnect the headphones and download the user manual
AUTONOMY AND CHARGING Tronsmart Soundfii Q20
Excellent autonomy which is about 60 hours, which is significantly reduced with ANC activated. If you use them the classic 2/3 hours a day you will comfortably do 2 weeks without charging them and among other things the charging is about 150 minutes so doable without major waiting problems.
SOUND QUALITY Tronsmart Soundfii Q20
But the question whose answer is the most important is: how do they “sound”? Well, I can assure you that they really amazed me. We are talking about a product that on offer is around €30 (I will put the purchase link later) and at this price it is almost impossible to find headphones with 4cm drivers that reproduce such deep bass, up to 20Hz, and powerful. Even on the medium-high frequencies I must say that we are there, the sound is well defined and clear, good singing and well reproduced medium sounds. Through the application it will then be possible to also adjust the equalization and this is another feature unthinkable on products of this level.
I must also say the noise reduction is good even if I prefer not to use it so as not to create the sort of artefact that this software can generate on entry level products. In fact I think that noise reduction can and should be used only on high-end headphones because the chip and the SW that manages it are a double-edged sword. Obviously I always speak in the case in which you are super musical experts and want the clearest possible listening.
Of course there is a microphone for our calls which I must say are really very good. The recipient will have our voice clear and limpid without any kind of disturbance.
PROJECTED IMPACT
Having said everything about these headphones, let's get to the final considerations, so let's talk about the price. Our list price is Tronsmart Soundfii Q20 they cost around €40 and this would already be a price for which to buy them with your eyes closed. If we then add that, thanks to our coupon and GeekBuying (our partner site that we thank for sending the sample) you can take them home for just over €20 then the best buy is served.
