Vivo X200 Ultra is a beauty but is it better than the 200 Pro? Here's the final comparison!

Less than 6 months ago Living gave us a top photographic smartphone on the market, the Vivo X200 Pro. Not that the rest of the smartphone was any less, but without a doubt the camera department stood out in an exaggerated way. Despite this, the reference point for Vivo photography remains the models ULTRA although unfortunately only for the Chinese market. It must be said that thanks to the origin OS, Vivo's proprietary graphical interface, and the presence of frequency bands 4G e 5G also used in Italy, we can also use them here, still taking advantage of 99% of the features! After having tried the 100 ultra, the 200 PRO I couldn't help but also test the brand new Vivo X200 Ultra to understand its potential and above all the differences with the 200 pro.

VIVO X200 ULTRA PACKAGE

Very good as always the sales package of this 200 Ultra! Luckily Vivo holds its ground and does not get greedy from the "madness" of other brands that now only put the smartphone in the package.. here we find:

  • VIVO X200 Ultra (with pre-installed screen protector)
  • Rubberized cover
  • 90W ultra-fast charger (plus adapter for Italian sockets) Type A
  • Type A – Type C charging cable
  • Clip for removing SIM tray
  • Various booklets

I am of course very pleased to find in the package the original charger, pre-installed screen protector and a good cover so that I can use the smartphone right away without worrying about buying accessories and maybe spending another 100€ (between cover, film and original charger the prices are those). The charger output is still Type A and I don't understand why they haven't switched to the Type C standard yet, but it's a detail that doesn't matter much. The cover is nice even if it completely covers the back of the smartphone which in my opinion is gorgeous. If you want to keep it visible you will need to buy a transparent one. A note of merit for the speed of the priority shipping (which I will tell you about at the end) Chinese that brought the phone home in 8 days! What can I say, vote 9!

VIVO X200 ULTRA AESTHETICS

From an aesthetic point of view I always repeat the famous Latin proverb “De gustibus non est disputandum”, so the next ones will obviously be personal considerations. After trying the black and titanium color I went for this red/burgundy one and I have to tell you that I really like it. The touch & feel is the usual one that distinguishes VIVO products, super mega premium as I call them, we find the usual maniacal attention to detail.
The camera group is made up of a really large and especially thick porthole, it protrudes a lot, I think the most invasive I've ever seen on a smartphone. Let's say that in the last 2 years the dimensions of the camera groups are more or less the same, but in this case it also becomes a bit ugly aesthetically. Unfortunately there is not much to do, given the size of the sensors this is something that must be accepted, so it must be accepted to then enjoy the photographic performances that are truly incredible. All in all you can also find the positive side of this size, in fact you can point with your index finger under the porthole to hold it better. The imbalance towards the cam group is not felt much but in your pocket it certainly is.

Coming to the dimensions we are faced with a phone that is 163,14mm long, 76,76mm wide, 8,69mm thick and 232Gr in weight (for the black and red version, while the white one is 229Gr). Unfortunately, the weight also exceeds that of the 100 ultra and we are at really exaggerated levels, which make these smartphones really not very portable. Keeping them in a pants pocket is very bulky, in a shirt pocket impossible to keep them. The battery gives good 6.000mAh It definitely affects the weight and I have already expressed my opinion on this topic. With today's charging speeds, in our case 90w which are equivalent to a full charge in about 30 minutes, in my opinion it would be more logical to keep less capacious batteries but that can save us a few grams of weight. We must not forget that by adding the cover (which 99.99% of users use) the weight increases by at least 25Gr so we go well over 250Gr. So get ready to buy a nice pouch/bag to carry it in the summer months

On the right side we find the volume rocker, the power button below and at the bottom, for the first time, the physical button for taking photos which we will talk about later. Above the always welcome infrared transmitter and the system speaker. Under the Type C 3.2 (with video output) for charging and the second system speaker and the trolley for inserting the SIM.

What catches the eye is the camera group that becomes really “thick” at least twice as much as the 200 PRO. Certainly not very nice to look at but functional as a support point with the index finger and despite this size the phone is not unbalanced forward but perfectly balanced when we hold it in our hand.

The color, in my case red, is truly stunning and when it meets the light it gives off a truly particular iridescent effect.

VIVO X200 PRO DATASHEET

As always, the HardWare department of a flagship is at the TOP from every point of view, in fact we find:

VIVO X200 ULTRA CPU

The 200 Ultra's processor is Qualcomm SD 8 Elite assisted by a GPU Adreno 830. Here I immediately open my classic consideration on the top-of-the-range phones that come out at this time of year, that is, when the new CPUs are about to be announced: starting from the assumption that for years now the CPU of a top-of-the-range could easily run smartphones of even 2 or 3 generations later perfectly, it remains a problem of marketing more than anything else since the CPU in question is undoubtedly the most performing currently on the market but in a few months it could already be considered "old", obviously for the maniacs of the sector. There is not much to say about this CPU except that it runs perfectly the already excellent Origin OS of vivo, an absolutely well-tested graphic interface. By now even on Android the LAGs are old memories, the processors of the last 2/3 years are so oversized that they could run a PC without problems. We then find a perfect interaction with thegenerative artificial intelligence which will allow us to facilitate all the operations that we will do with the smartphone, from the creation of texts, contents, notes, editing photos and videos and so on and so forth. The management of consumption is also excellent, which we will examine in more detail in the battery section. The RAM is of the Lpddr5X Maximum speed of 10667 Mbps (12 or 16Gb) and ROM UFS 4.1 (256Gb/512Gb/1Tb) complete this HW department giving you the best from every point of view. Exaggerated multitasking, games at maximum resolution and frame rate, lightning speed for each operation make the 200 Ultra among the most powerful smartphones on the market.

VIVO X200 DISPLAY

The Display is a beautiful unit to 6.82" with a very high brightness that even reaches the 4.500Nits, perfect readability even outdoors under direct sunlight. The refresh rate is 120Hz, in line with the refresh rate that is now a standard. We can set it to 60/120Hz/Auto. My advice is to leave it in automatic mode which, thanks to the panel LPT extension, based on the content we are viewing, if not necessary, the frequency will be lowered until it reaches 1Hz. This feature will obviously bring us a good energy saving since there are situations in which even the minimum frequency of notes is fine. 1Hz (classic case the Always on Display). Tested with movies, YouTube videos, games, social, etc. and I assure you that it is simply exceptional. The touch sampling rate is 300Hz, the best on the market, so you won't lose any commands even when going at the speed of light! As for the form factor, Vivo proposes the one seen on the 200 pro, that is a display "slightly” curved on 4 sides. It is a new solution adopted by many manufacturers to please everyone and hoping to end the dispute between lovers of curved screens and lovers of flat screens.
The colors are excellently calibrated and the settings are really numerous. In fact, you can schedule the timing to have the dark mode (dark mode), keep it always active or not use it and dim the backgrounds in the dark mode, ditto for the eye protection mode. There are also three settings for the color tone, standard-pro-bright, two system fonts (plus others downloadable, 5 display sizes, 7 character sizes, two resolution modes, UHD and HD and many other settings. So we can safely say that the Display is also a strong point of our 200 Ultra.

VIVO X200 Ultra AUTONOMY

As I mentioned before, the battery is really generous, well 6.000mAh. Consequently, thanks also to the Chinese firmware (Origin OS) the guaranteed autonomy can easily cover a day of stress use, even one and a half with moderate use. In my tests I averaged about 7.5 hours of display on, from 8 to 24. Mixed use 5G/4G/Wi-Fi, 3 hours of hotspot (which consumes a lot), many photos and videos, a lot of whatsapp/telegram, social (FB-IG), some voice calls. Definitely it SD8 Elite It manages consumption well and combined with the LPTO screen it guarantees excellent energy savings. Android 15 also seems to be more economical than previous versions of Android even if I am now convinced that, as I said before, Chinese ROMs are in themselves less energy-hungry than Global ones.
I remind you that all the applications they don't start automatically when the phone is turned on, which means that to start them, and therefore receive notifications, you will have to open them manually or insert them into the menu automatic execution (settings-app-permissions management-permissions-autostart). This is a fundamental aspect to keep in mind because I hear many users complaining about the fact that with Chinese roms notifications do not work properly but they are the ones who do not know about this very important setting.
We are not currently at the levels of the 200 Pro, but as always happens, the autonomy is destined to increase after some firmware updates.
As for charging, we always have the gem of the “fast” or “super fast” charging option. Super fast is equivalent to 90w which allows a full recharge in just over 40 minutes, fast I suppose we could be around 50w. From the battery settings we could put on the lock screen the selection of which type of charging to perform and which to use by default, and change it with just one click. Personally when I'm not in a hurry I leave the charging slower but less stressful for the battery. As I always remember never let your smartphone go below 20% of residual charge. Partial charging is always recommended, so even if you find yourself at 50% recharge without worries. Charging is also present 40W Wireless.

VIVO CAMERA VIVO X200 PRO

In this chapter I will show you how all the sensors of our camera work. VIVO X200 Ultra and I will compare them to those of the 200 PRO, so in each section you will find first the shots of the ultra then those of the pro in the exact same lighting conditions. I would like to point out that all the shots were taken in mode AUTOMATIC and without tripod support, so to free hand. I used this shooting condition because it is clearly the most used with a smartphone.

MAIN PHOTO CAMERA

Let's start from the main camera which is the new but well-tested sensor Sony Lytia Lyt-818 from 1/1.28″ f/1.69, OIS, AF, equivalent focal length 35 mm which is the first big news. These 35mm equivalents are more similar to the focal lengths of real cameras.
The collaboration with Zeiss remains an unsurpassable plus, as the lenses are actually among the best on the market. With this X200 Ultra the project also continues “BlueImage” a proprietary imaging technology that significantly improves shots in difficult lighting conditions (low light, backlighting, etc.) and in addition we find 2 image processors. In addition to theISP V3+ already present on the 200 pro (dedicated to post-production) we find theISP VS1 (dedicated to focusing and exposure). For photo maniacs we can also use the Photographic kit and optional lens with 2,35x zoom which, working in synergy with the integrated telephoto lens, reaches the incredible (for a smartphone) equivalent focal length of 200 mm.
But how are the shots that I will show you shortly? Well, in fact the results are astonishing! The colors are always very similar to the real ones even if I noticed a slight saturation compared to the 200 pro (the thing is slight so acceptable), the white balance is always impeccable and the digital noise is almost absent even in night shots.
Very good portraits, another strong point, where the skin and the detail on every imperfection make them truly “photo enlargement”, good landscapes, excellent macros even if these 2 scenarios are recommended with the wide and zoom camera. There are many settings for all those who want to try their hand at manual shots, obviously there is the possibility of shooting in RAW mode and in the brand new mode Super Raw. The difference between the 2 is that in super raw you will already have a nice and ready file without having to fiddle with editing applications.
For the first time on a VIVO smartphone we find a physical and customizable button dedicated to shots. Personally I don't like using the physical button, I much prefer to shoot with the on-screen button or with voice commands (which work perfectly) but I must say that this button is really well made. It does not have a physical excursion, pressing it gives us a vibration and it can also be used, by scrolling left and right, to change the brightness or the zoom (in mm or 1x/2X/etc). There are also many settings that can be changed via a dedicated menu that you can find inside the camera settings.

The question that arises spontaneously is: is there much difference between the Ultra and the PRO? I'll tell you my opinion, no. Surely the Ultra has an extra gear in all difficult scenarios (night, zoom, panoramas) but you will notice this extra gear, and not always, only having both shots in front on a nice 27″ monitor. So if you have a 200 pro the transition to the 200 ultra would be just a whim.

⚠ I remind you that the 200 Ultra has a focal length 1x equivalent to 35 mm unlike the PRO which is equivalent to 23 mm. So the shots will look slightly different but the ZOOM it will always be the same (1x) for both phones

ZOOM CAMERA (PERISCOPE)

Following in the footsteps of the 100 Ultra and 200 Pro, here we are faced with a novelty in the field of smartphone photography, a periscope camera of well 200Mpx, Samsung ISOCELL HP9 ZEISS APO II, 1/1,4″, ƒ / 2,27, with autofocus and OIS, equivalent to 85mm. We immediately notice that this configuration brings us a bright sensor compared to the 200 Pro (from ƒ / 2,67 a ƒ / 2,27). The zoom without loss of detail is up to 3.7x but I assure you that up to 20/30x you will not notice that you are not shooting with the main one because the quality of the shot is crazy, as it already was (perhaps to a slightly lesser extent) with the 100 ultra and the 200 pro. I have not had the opportunity to use the photographic kit with the additional zoom lens but in my opinion you can easily do without it also because we always have the smartphone with us while the kit must be carried and assembled. Let's say that it is a beautiful accessory but not very comfortable, perhaps usable in the case of vacation but absolutely not in everyday use.
Here I propose some shots, compared to those of the 200 Pro, taken with different zooms in this sequence: 1x, 10x, 30x, 60x, 100x for the Pro and 1x, 10x, 30x, 60x, 70x for the Ultra as the latter stops at 70x as the maximum zoom.

In this comparison I could essentially notice 2 things:

  • The 200 Ultra's zoom actually appears brighter
  • The stabilization is definitely more optimized on the 200 PRO and this is very evident in the videos that I will propose to you later. Let's not forget that the 200 PRO uses 6 months of updates that have brought this extraordinary level of stabilization that I have also noticed in the last 2 months. So I am definitely optimistic for the ULTRA. With the 200 Pro I have never happened to blur a zoom shot, while with the Ultra it happened clearly in the shot of the road signs and in at least 2/3 others and I also notice some micro blur in other photos.

ULTRA WIDE CAMERA

In the ultra-wide-angle camera we have a good upgrade, in fact we also find on this sensor the Sony Lytia 818, 50Mpx, ƒ/2.0, focal length equivalent to 15mm, 116°, autofocus. Compared to the 200 pro “wide angle” a little less, from 119° to 116°, but the quality of the shots is definitely superior. Also for this sensor I post some shots compared to those of the 200 pro.

SELFIE CAM – PORTRAITS

Upgrade also in the selfie cam that goes from 32Mpx to 50Mpx, ƒ/2.0 but not being very practical on selfies I will not be able to give you a detailed judgment. I always do the test to see the HDR functioning, so the classic shot with the sunset behind and backlight. In the first scenario you usually get the burned sky and the illuminated face or the dark face and the correctly contrasted sky. Here, as in the other top VIVO smartphones, we get perfect selfies with a perfectly contrasted sky and correctly illuminated face. Even with strong backlighting I must say that the face is always balanced correctly.

Portraits are excellent with all the main rear cameras, both in normal mode and in portrait mode (which automatically brings the use of the 200mpx zoom cam).

VIDEO

As in the 200 pro, here too we find a myriad of video modes, with many different resolutions. There is the Dolby Vision option and the “cinematic portrait”, slomotion, time-lapse, micro film, etc. modes. The quality is naturally very high even if I noticed excessive saturation and, as already said, stabilization not at the TOP. Comparing it with the pro in my opinion it does not do better, on the contrary... but we are always waiting for some software update to understand its real capabilities. Very good autofocus practically instantaneous and perfect and the problem that afflicted the pro of the Lens Flare seems to have been solved. We can see the substantial difference between the 2 in the shot of the goat where in the pro this problem appears evident. Here I propose some comparisons of the zoom sensor and the main one. Maximum resolution settable is 4K is 120fps or 8K is 30fps.
The final judgment is yours.

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS CAMERA

After seeing all these shots and videos you will have made up your own mind which is the most important thing but in any case I will also bring you mine: the potential of this cameraphone is evident but to date I do not feel like saying that it is superior to the 200 PRO. It must be said that the latter has received at least ten updates that have improved the camera department each time, so I am really optimistic. What currently seems to be missing from the ultra is the practically perfect stabilization that the pro enjoys. It is obvious that this is not a detail, especially in shots with pushed zoom where stabilization is fundamental. The lens flare problem seems to have been solved, the autofocus is excellent and benefits from the work of the new ISP VS1, excellent portraits, definitely a plus to have the physical button to shoot. I like having a 35mm equivalent focal length in 1x shots because it gives more the idea of having a real digital camera.
What is quite evident in my opinion is the greater brightness of the Zoom sensor which gives us better shots in low light conditions.
I don't think it's important to have the photo kit because I definitely find it uncomfortable but this is an absolutely subjective opinion and I understand that for others it could be a very interesting accessory. I would like to point out that the problems I found only came out with extreme shots, zoom from 60x, so we are talking about something purely for review and difficult to find in everyday use.
In conclusion I feel I can say that if the updates will be improvements as in the case of the 200 pro with the 200 ultra we are faced with another significant improvement that I thought was almost impossible to obtain with practically the same hardware (net of the new VS1 ISP).

FIRMWARE

At the release of the Vivo X200 Ultra we will find the OriginOS 5 based on Android 15, Chinese firmware with Italian language. From the store where I purchased it (TRADINGSHENZHEN) it will arrive with PlayStore already installed (obviously Google services are present). A global version of this smartphone is not planned, it will therefore remain the prerogative of the Chinese market. But do not worry as it will be possible to purchase it from China and in case you need to perform a deep reset the only thing you will have to do is reinstall the playstore, a very simple operation as you will just have to download the APK file from this link (PLAY STORE) and install it by clicking on it. The great thing is that all the blotware can be uninstalled and you will not find almost any limitations compared to the global Vivo version (the FunTouch) in fact the Origin works much better: you will have many more updates and quickly, you will have more customization of the smartphone, you will have better performances even with regards to the camera. Are there any software criticalities?

SOFTWARE CRITICISM

The Chinese Origin OS firmware has now reached an exceptional level even for those who use it outside of China. What will we miss compared to a global version? Now only the Google voice assistant (hey google). Everything else will work flawlessly, including Android Auto and AOD notifications from third-party applications. In the phone settings you will find many AI functions that manage a series of services in China, those obviously will not be usable but they do not create any problems.

AOD Notifications Third Party AppX

Android AUTOX

Google functions with Chinese firmware

As you can see, most of the essential features are present. You will have all the OTA updates (and very quickly too), all the application notifications also on AOD, the possibility to pay with NFC through Wallet of Google and the connection BT with the car including Android Auto. You will also have the possibility of RECORD CALLS with the default dialer. As for the Google voice assistant (not the voice search which works perfectly) there is no way to set it as default, so it does not work. This remains the only lack. I remember instead that the Google voice search, to be clear the one that is activated via microphone on the Google bar, works perfectly.
I also had the chance to try out FunTouch on Vivo X200 Pro and I can assure you that Origin OS is absolutely preferable.

APPLICATION SETTINGS ⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️

For all the applications you install you will have a sea of settings for notifications, energy saving, autostart, running in the background and much more. Remember, fundamentally, that in most Chinese firmwares the automatic launch of applications does not happen by default, so with each restart you will have to open the application manually the first time to receive notifications. In our case proceed like this: Settings – App – Permissions management – Permissions – Automatic start. Here you can enable all the applications you want to start when the phone starts, all those from which you want to receive notifications (of course messaging applications such as Whatsapp, Telegram, etc.)

SIDEBAR – SCAN

Among the many applications and software settings I found this sidebar very convenient, customizable, where we will find several AI applications that will help us extract text, images, read text (English and Chinese but also in Italian in a somewhat “macaronic” way) and much more. You can also use the camera to scan documents, scan QR Codes, extract and edit/translate text from documents and much more. Text extraction is really very precise and can be performed on text present anywhere, on a sheet of paper as well as on a medicine bottle.

OTHER SOFTWARE FEATURES

As I was telling you, Origin OS is more customizable than its global version (FunTouch) and I can't tell you here about the myriad of settings and features that you will find. Obviously some will only be usable in China, but almost all of them will work very well in Italy too. Here I will therefore list only those that are fundamental and present for me. Let's start with programmed switching off and on which will allow you to turn off your phone at night and turn it on in the morning before your alarm. A function that is not even present on smartphones of the level like the Google Pixel. I even found the possibility of schedule airplane mode, if someone does not like having the phone turned off during the night they could also use this to disable data or data and mobile line. We also find the programmed vibration mode, I use it at night to not disturb at home when any notifications arrive.

In the era of artificial intelligence, it could not be missing in the management ofphoto editingIn the “delete” menu we will find 5 options that will be used to:

  • smart circle (circle the object to remove)
  • Manual deletion (select the object to remove)
  • remove people (to remove a group of people)
  • remove reflections (to remove reflections on glass for example)
  • remove reflection (lens flare removal)

Here I post some examples for removing subjects from photos. I must say that compared to the first tests I did with the 100 ultra the improvement was crazy, now the level is comparable to that of Google. In removing people you can also choose which people to remove or remove them all. In a photo with a predominant subject he will be left by default.

The possibility of also being excellent cloning applications, a feature that is not essential for everyone but for those who really need it, the non-stock alternatives present in the play store are not even remotely comparable to the proprietary ones. Note that in the list we will have all the installed apps, while other UIs allow you to clone a few applications (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger) without forgetting that on other smartphones, even from big brands, it is not even possible to do so.

4G+/5G NETWORKS – CONNECTIONS

The networks chapter is very complicated and it is also complicated when we talk about "global" phones. In fact, the reception issue depends on the telephone, the area and obviously the operator. For what concern 4G Let's say right away that the infamous one is present 20 band, which is essential for some Italian operators and the best frequency that allows for excellent reception even inside homes, so no problem. As regards the 5G the available networks are the following: n1/n2/n3/n5/n7/n8/n12/n18/n20/n25/n26/n28/n38/n40/n41/n48/n66/n77/n78/n79/n80/n81/n83/n84/n89. I cannot of course test other operators besides mine which is currently Wind3, but I can assure you that with this one you will really find yourself great. I live in a small town and these are the results of the speed tests in 4G + e 5G

WiFi 7 e BlueTooth 5.4, perfect for listening to your favorite music in TWS at exceptional quality, complete the excellent wireless connections department of the 100 Ultra. I specified exceptional quality because the supported BT audio codecs are all the best performing: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, LDAC, LHDC 5.0

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

After having told you everything there is to say, I have nothing left to do but make my personal considerations, while keeping in mind that yours, at this point, will have already been made. Vivo X200 Ultra is a candidate to be the best camera phone of 2025 and I have no big doubts that with some firmware updates it will become so. Of course, in addition to the TOP camera department, all the hardware of the phone is top-notch, the best currently on the market. Coming out in May there is always the issue of the CPU which will soon already be "old" even if this is a valid discussion only for the maniacs of the sector. As I always say, by now the power of the CPU is such that with a top of the range from 4 years ago, in everyday use, you will not notice any differences compared to one from this year, so this discussion is a waste of time. I find the origin OS the best Android UI on the market and now they have fixed all those little shortcomings that affected its perfect use even by us. True, it still lacks compatibility with Google Assistant but I must also tell you that I have never seen anyone use it on the phone (I have certainly never used it).

I bought it on TRADINGSHENZHEN, a site where I had already made purchases. The priority shipping was very fast and in 8 days the phone arrived at my home. The shipping price was €16, you can also opt for the fast DHL shipping that will deliver the phone in about 3/4 days but you will have to pay the customs fees that will not be due in the case of priority shipping. But even in this case do not worry because the customs fees will be reimbursed by the same store. In conclusion, as far as I am concerned, if you want to have in your hands a top cameraphone and top smartphone I would absolutely recommend you to buy this beautiful VIVO X200 ULTRA for the reasons explained so far, you will surely be satisfied with the choice you made!
