Let's explore the knowledge of the Mijia Mi Laser Projector

With the rise of high-definition multimedia content, there is a growing need for a large-screen TV that also generates the resulting price increase. On average, a 55 inch LDC screen shrinks on the 500 euros, reaching even beyond 1500 for 70 inch screens. For some time, someone has thought of replacing the TV with a laser projector that can offer larger diagonals and Xiaomi has decided to ride the wave of this new market by offering its Mijia Mi Laser Projector that stands out from mass for its technical characteristics.

Like other Xiaomi products, this projector comes with a minimalistic design. The fuselage is mainly made of plastic in white color while the speaker panel is black in color creating an elegant contrast between the two profiles. The design is simple, minimal and similar to other models already on the market, although the corners are considerably rounded, as well as the presence of 3 height adjustment feet, but only two are adjustable.

The back of the Mijia Mi Laser Projector comes with a series of interfaces such as three HDMI ports (one of which supports ARC technology, resulting in the ability to connect audio speakers with 7.1 surround sound), an 3.0 USB port, jack input 3,5 mm audio, AV interface, fiber optic audio output and Gigabit network port but there is an additional 2.0 USB input on the right side of the device.

Xiaomi claims that the laser light inside the projector is guaranteed for 250000 hours. This results in up to 34 years of use with daily use of 2 hours per day. The image quality is ensured following the use of advanced ALPD 3.0 technology which, thanks to the presence of two infrared sensors, manages the brightness so as not to tire the eyes. The laser projector itself only needs to be placed 50cm from the wall to provide a projection of a 150-inch screen while if we approach it we will get a 50-inch screen.

The sound is of high quality thanks to the adoption of the Xiaomi custom system for its Mi TV for a total of 30W. The remote control looks the same as the Mi TV remote control even if it is more elongated as it has been introduced a white plastic band with the Mijia logo.

3 is the kind of technology Xiaomi could adopt on this Mijia Mi Laser Projector. The first one is called 3LCD, ie 3 chip is used: a light source projects white light on a combination of mirrors that divide the light into red, green and blue. Each of these chips takes the electrical signal and creates an image. Then the 3 color images are combined into one through a prism, passing through a lens and then projected onto a screen.

Then we have the DLP technology that uses microscopic mirrors instead to create the final image that will be processed by the DMD chip and immediately afterwards projected on a screen. The number of mirrors used corresponds to the resolution of the projected image. This is the technology that Xiaomi has adopted for its projector as the images are clearer.

Finally we find the technology called LCOS that appeared on the market a couple of years ago. It is essentially a kind of advanced LCD display. LCOS is a small active matrix liquid crystal display (often called "microdisplay") that uses a layer of liquid crystals on top of a silicon backplane.

Xiaomi also uses the ALPD3.0 technology, which increases the intensity, contrast and brightness of the image by leveraging laser + phosphor monochrome technology by obtaining benefits such as:

  1.  More accurate color reproduction due to a higher proportion of red and a greater range of colors;
  2. Improved brightness and contrast;
  3. Life span of improved light source.

This product uses a large optical field depth lens provided by the Japanese Ricoh manufacturer, reaching 0,233: 1. According to what is officially stated, the maximum brightness of the laser projector can reach up to 5000 lumens and the static contrast ratio up to 3000: 1, although it is recommended to turn off the ambient lights as you use the laser projector to achieve better performance.

The Mijia Mi Laser Projector comes with all the content available on the Xiaomi Mi TV, and through the remote control you can leverage various functions and settings such as fire regulation, or image correction by adjusting the brightness or projection parameters by choosing between parameters with priority to the accuracy of color reproduction, etc., acting directly on the projector's mirror.

Surely the image will not be quite comparable to high-end TVs and therefore quality loss is to be taken into account but it must also be considered as a projector has the portability advantage. For many of us it will not be a future purchase but for lovers of this kind the price of only 9999 yuan equivalent to about 1300 Euros could be a fair investment.

Hi Unfortunately I strongly discourage the product I was too hasty in the purchase occurred at the shopping center of arese (MI) at the store. I live in Naples and the assistance is completely non-existent I had to go to Milan on the last day before the expiration of the 14 days to change it because I saw some distortions in the image projected on the wall at any distance / inch. I have changed the projector but mounting it I noticed the same defects more than others if you want to attach photos. I'm sorry I did not buy it online so I could withdraw with the return of € 1900,00 money. I believe or at least I hope he has... Read the rest »
