Xiaomisti friends have come to clarify once and for all what ROM typologies exist and how one recognizes, therefore, one Official ROM from a so-called "cooked", "custom" or "Phony".
Topics of this article:
How many of you have already purchased from sites that ship Xiaomi devices with those that are called technical jargon "Fake" ROMs? Well, after you start explaining how to replace them, let's see how to recognize them!
1Fastboot ROM and Full ROM: what's the difference?
Fastboot ROM and Full ROM: what's the difference?
Many of you will not care about this distinction, but it's always good to do it, as it often happens that there is confusion about which ROM to use with the MiFlash or SPFlashTool tool.
Short speech on this first distinction. There is nothing to add. Let's move on.
2Official ROMs Global and China
Official ROMs Global and China
Let's start by recalling that we have already covered this distinction long ago and that you will find in detail all the differences between the various versions of ROM in this article:
- The differences between the various branches and versions of MIUI -
But first things first.
In addition to what has already been said, today we want to point out the links to be able to verify directly what are the latest releases released and, especially, which ROMs exist for your Xiaomi smartphone.
All of you, hopefully, will know the official Xiaomi website. Well, inside the site, there is a section dedicated to Download for all Xiaomi devices and more!
In fact, the MIUI ROMs are so appreciated that they are required by the owners of other brands!
Within this section (as you can see from the image above) you will also find your Xiaomi smartphone and, by clicking on it, will open a page where they will be shown all the latest ROMs currently available for the selected smartphone.
Everything is very simple? But let's take an example!
As you can see from the two images shown in the slideshow, while for the Mi5 there is the “Global” section in which the two “international” ROMs are shown, for the more recent Mi Mix the China section is the only one that exists, which confirms that for the Xiaomi Mi Mix there are no Global ROMs – hopefully not for long.
How do you do it for downloading them? Just click the green button "Download Full ROM"And it will start downloading automatically.
3How to Recognize a "Rough" or "custom" ROM
How to Recognize a "Rough" or "custom" ROM
We come to the main point of this short guide: how we distinguish an official ROM from one that has been "cooked".
If we have reached this point of the guide, we will surely have learned to check the availability of official ROMs (2 point).
But what does a ROM make up?
- going to settings ⇒ device information ⇒ MIUI version, you find one of these "clues":
- the version code ends with two zeros (eg xxx0.0);
- it is reported that you have a Global but the code contains the China CN identifier (eg Global Stable with MAACNDI code for Mi5);
- you have a xiaomi.eu ROM without having requested and unlocked the Bootloader (xiaomi.eu ROMs can only be installed after unlocking the bootloader and installing a Custom Recovery)
- you find a Global ROM (previous to 8.1.0) containing the Italian, but in reality your device has not yet received the Italian on Global Stable
Obviously, if you find a "do-it-go" ROM, we always recommend replacing it with an officer so you can receive OTA updates and have as few bugs and bugs as possible.
To know how to replace ROMs you just have to keep track of us because we will soon publish the guides for the correct replacement of these ROMs valid for all Xiaomi devices!
If you were satisfied with the guide and, why not, if you would like to offer me a beer or a coffee for the work done, I leave you the PayPal donation button below. No obligation, mind you!
hello, I have a MI5x with fake rom, from the adb it tells me that the bootloader is unlocked but if I try to flash the twrp from fastboot (always with adb) it gives me the error: "error: cannot load twrp.img".
Unfortunately for this device the global official was not made, how can I install a custom rom?
thank you
Hi I just bought xiaomi me max 2 on gearbest you know if i have a rom out of the way ??? Attach photos thank you milleee
It's quiet, it's an original ROM
But what issues do you have for a rom? And bloatware or some Chinese string?
X marco Rossano. Consider that I tried both with flash me, the recommended version, and in download mode. No other oddity I can not go to fingerprint (however never set one). If I go to make a call it's like I have airplane mode.
Hi. I have a problem with a pro note 3 .. Purchased on geekbuying .. I tried various rom, dev and global, SIM signal missing .. i need to do? I followed the various guides present .. no.
* # * # 4636 # * # * and set in wcdma information
So all devices that come with fake ROMs have the bootloader unlocked?
In my case, yes.
I put the Global Dev through MiFlash and blocked the bootloader.
Is it as if I had a normal RedMi Note 3 Pro?
Can I unlock it officially?
Just do not run into problems like Cyanogenmod with BL unlocked unofficially.
Thank you.
The phony (also called custom) has the EDL unlocked, sure you have not used that to put the global dev?
Anyway, to answer your question, YES, with the global dev you can unlock with the official method (in truth, only the method exists).
excellent article, very clear and comprehensive! just one question: do you know when Italian will arrive in the global MI5S? thanks
Unfortunately we don't know but there's really not much time left 😉
ok thank you very much, but since the Italian is on the global developer, just download the package and install it from the Updater app to switch from global stable to developer?
