Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its new flagship smartphone range, the series Xiaomi 17, and according to industry sources, the launch in China could take place as early as September 30thWhile the date hasn't been officially confirmed yet, teasers released by Xiaomi for the 17 Pro model suggest an announcement is imminent. The Xiaomi 17 series is expected to include three models: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The most detailed information concerns the Pro models, which promise to be true powerhouses of technology. Both will be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a chip that promises exceptional performance thanks to two 4,61 GHz cores and six 3,63 GHz cores. Initial benchmarks on Geekbench show a single-core score of 3.096 and multi-core scores of 9.382, numbers that indicate excellent fluidity for both everyday use and gaming.
The operating system will be HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, and the hardware will include 16GB of RAM, confirming the focus on a premium experience. One of the most interesting new features is the return of the rear display, now called Magic Back Screen: a rectangular strip surrounding the cameras that can be customized with clocks, avatars, GIFs, and smart features like home automation control or selfie preview.
On the camera front, the Xiaomi 17 Pro is expected to feature three 50MP sensors: a main one with an f/1.67 aperture, an ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and an f/3.0 aperture. The Pro Max model will offer a slightly brighter telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture. As per tradition, the camera department will be co-engineered with Leica, a guarantee of quality and precision.
With these specifications, the 17 series is poised to be one of the most interesting of 2025, ready to compete with the top-of-the-line models from Samsung, Apple, and other brands.
