Xiaomi also adapts the anti-addiction system for minors

La China has had a troubled history when it comes to video games. In 2015, it ended the nationwide ban on the sale and purchase of consoles, something it had imposed to safeguard the nation's youth and culture. A few months ago a official Chinese client for Steam which offers securities that adhere to the country's strict regulations. In fact, gambling and too bloody games are prohibited. Now, the Chinese government announced a new law which states that minors in the country can only play video games for up to three hours each weekend. Xiaomi adapts to this policy, like so many other companies.

xiaomi games issued an announcement last night, in order to actively respond to the Central Government's request that all companies "lend a hand". To effectively protect the physical and mental health of minors, Xiaomi Games will complete the adaptation of the anti-addiction system of the minor on September 1, 2021. After the adjustment, Xiaomi Games and most game developers will jointly follow the relevant requirements and provide one-hour game services to minors from 20:00 to 21:00 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Interestingly, China is not urging the parents to enforce these rules, but instead requires Chinese gaming companies like Tencent, NetEase, and Xiaomi to improve their systems. Among the policies that companies must implement, there is also the system registration with real name so that minors cannot access.

According to Xinhua, the reason for these restrictions is that Beijing wants prevent online gambling addiction, regardless of the platform used by the players. The World Health Organization (WHO) also recognized "gambling disorder" as a disease in 2019.
