Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro official with Snapdragon 855 Plus and UFS 3.0

About four months after the presentation of the Xiaomi Black Shark 2, the Chinese brand has decided to surprise all competitors with the release of a new version of Xiaomi's gaming phone, the Black Shark 2 Pro.

Why do we say to surprise competitors and not fans of the Chinese brand? Well quite simply because being the first to launch a device with the latest CPU released, the Snapdragon 855 Plus, is always a boast factor. In this case the closest competitor is ASUS that a few days ago presented the ROG Phone 2 with the new SoC, but Xiaomi could still grab another record, read on to find out which one (find it at the end)!

Let's start with making it clear what the differences are between the Black Shark 2 Pro and the previous version. As many of us expected, there are no substantial changes except the new processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus which promises a slight increase in performance with over 500 thousand points obtained on the application of AnTuTu benchmarks.

But it does not end there, in addition to the most powerful CPU we will also have the latest generation of internal memory, or the type one UFS 3.0 (128GB or 256GB), so finally a step forward compared to the UFS 2.1 which has been accompanying us for several years now. As for the volatile memory instead (the RAM), the Pro variant is only available with 12GB RAM.

Let's now turn to the features in common with the Black Shark 2 (not Pro), we have the same display as 6,39 inches with AMOLED technology support for HDR content and a dedicated chip that takes care of reducing brightness in a smarter way, to make eyes less tired when playing in the dark. The screen is then surrounded by the edges above and below, so no notch or perforated screen, or pop up camera and yes, we also have the integrated fingerprint sensor.

From a photographic point of view, the Black Shark 2 Pro equips a sensor from 48MP (the Sony IMX586) paired with an 12MP camera with 2x optical zoom (up to 10x via software). While in front we find an 20MP sensor for high resolution selfies.

Being a gaming phone, the smartphone has been equipped with a particular cooling system both through the presence of a metal heat sink and a real liquid cooling. This system allows to reduce the temperature by approximately 14 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, we have an 240Hz touch sampling rate for a response time of only 34,7 milliseconds. Xiaomi claims that it is around 100% faster than ordinary screens.

Other interesting features include the two front speakers for stereo sound, a special mode to increase performance during game sessions and a screen pressure sensor that can pick up two strong pressures in the two halves of the display and then configure them as buttons in -game. The rest of the hardware includes a roomy 4000mAh battery with support for fast charging to 27W and MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie as the operating system.

We end with the best part, that is the price. How much does one of the smartphones (if not the smartphone) more powerful on the market cost? Well apparently less than the launch predecessor. While the 2 Black Shark with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory was 3199 Yuan (415 €) at day 1, the new Black Shark 2 Pro costs only 2999 Yuan (390 €), well 12GB RAM and 128GB of internal memory. The version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory will go on sale instead to 3499 Yuan (455 €).

No, we have not forgotten the record of Xiaomi! We are talking about the date of sale and release of the smartphone. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro will in fact be the first device with Snapdragon 855 Plus on the market (at least in China), with sales starting on August 2.
