Xiaomi patents a new technology to prevent screen burn-in

As many know, for OLED screens the "burn-in" is a problem that still plagues our smartphones. As long as a single element is displayed in an area for a long time, there is indeed the possibility of screen burn-in.

Xiaomi patents a new technology to prevent screen burn-in

If you have a smartphone with a fingerprint recognition area below the screen, this must be highlighted during recognition and theoretically there is also the possibility of screen burn-in.

In this regard, Xiaomi recently had a patent approved for “display, device and storage medium control method” (publication number CN115334189A), which provides a solution.

From what we see, the patent therefore serves to bring a method of control of the display, device and storage medium, which can be applied to the optical fingerprint recognition area under the screen.

In terms of display control, the patent can gradually adjust the screen brightness of the optical fingerprint recognition area under the screen in the order of low to high brightness within the preset brightness adjustment range and simultaneously collect fingerprint recognition images.

After the image is collected, it can record the display brightness of the optical fingerprint recognition area under the screen and the illumination intensity of the ambient light when the fingerprint recognition image is collected successfully.

After that, the system will make a corresponding relationship between the light intensity and the display brightness, so as to avoid screen burn-in caused by strong brightness which will seriously affect the screen when the fingerprint is unlocked.

It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi announced a patent related to the "burn-in repair method" not long ago. The combination of the two patents could be able to solve the problem of cellphone screen burn-in.
