Xiaomi Cactus appears on Geekbench: Redmi 5X or 6A? The question is "thorny"

In this 2018 where Xiaomi is increasingly committed to its globalization, through the opening of Mi Store outside of China with expansion in Europe, interest in landing on the American market and listing on the stock exchange through IPO, the company manages to find time to propose new devices that will be placed in various market segments, even if now the difference between entry level, medium and top of the range is really minimal.

And if recently we have seen the presentation of Redmi Note 5 / Pro, Mi Mix 2S, BlackShark, Mi 6X and the new Redmi S2, present on the scene from today, unexpected news could soon arrive. In fact in the last few hours it appeared in Geekbench database, a test that refers to one Xiaomi smartphone with the codename CACTUS and that judging from the benchmark results will be a potential entry level, but the company seems to want to go back to an old love, or the MediaTek processor.

Xiaomi Cactus appears on Geekbench: Redmi 5X or 6A? The question is "thorny"

This could also mean that probably the device will be destined for "poor" markets or simply that given the high demand of Qualcomm processors, Xiaomi is looking for some alternative low-lever devices, which are generally the best-selling on a global scale. The MediaTek processor used on the Xiaomi Cactus is a MT6765, quad-core clocked at 2.0 GHz. Specifically, the new device totals 771 points in the single core test and 2317 points in the multi core test. From the benchmark test appeared online we can also note that they will only be present 2 GB of RAM memory, the minimum essential for running the OS without lag Android Oreo 8.1 probably with MIUI 9.5 interface.

It goes without saying that probably on this terminal we will not find news like the use of artificial intelligence, but support will be guaranteed instead Project Treble. Also the Xiaomi Cactus could be one minor version of another smartphone appeared some time ago on the Geekbench database, the Cereus model boasting the same SoC MediaTek MT6765 but had 3 GB of RAM. The strangeness lies in the fact that the test on the Cactus model shows a quad-core structure related to the CPU while that related to the Cereus model shows the word octa-core. Which of the two tests is false?  Apart from that, the processor in question is currently unknown, but some say it as Helio P40 while the assumptions that are circulating about Xiaomi Cactus and Cereus are that these two smartphones could identify a future Redmi 5X or a Redmi 6A.

Read the rest »
