Xiaomi already has a prototype smartphone with a camera under the screen

While the recently announced Redmi K20 series depopulated in China, the mother company, Xiaomi, seems instead committed to working on one of the most innovative technologies of recent times.

As the title suggests, we are in fact talking about a technology that would allow the camera to be able to photograph from under the display and then remove both notches, holes or various pop-up mechanisms.

The news was shared by the president of Xiaomi, Lin Bin, on the Chinese social media Weibo today and includes the video clip that we can see above.

Lin Bin added that "This is a small video shot last month with a prototype of the Xiaomi Mi 9 to achieve a truly full screen design. There are no holes, notch drop or pop-up camera, simply a display and a hidden sensor. What do you think?"

Wang Teng on Weibo

Xiaomi product director Wang Teng then commented that they wanted to release the video last month, but this would have slowed Redmi K20's marketing campaign. In any case, Wang admits that the technology adopted on this prototype is not yet mature, for example there are artifacts on the screen and we are not even sure of the quality of the selfie taken when the resolution of the video is not high.

So don't expect to see this technology available in the next few months, there is most likely still a lot of work to be done. That said, if Xiaomi manages to produce the first under-screen camera device, the company could see growth not from poco, a bit like with the original Xiaomi Mi MIX that put the smartphone manufacturer in the spotlight internationally.

The turning point! We hope they have patented. If not we will find an iPhone with a hidden camera even before the MiX4
