Xiaomi confirms the collaboration with Leica, but not for a smartphone

Let's go back to talking about the collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica. The first time we talked about it was in May of last year, when a former executive of Oppo Shen Yiren he revealed that a company was in talks with Leica. Weird thing. After that moment, silence until November of the same year when the insider Digital Chat Station confirmed those rumors by posting a rating of Xiaomi 11 Ultra with Leica's branding on the secondary screen. Today, months later, here is the MIUI code reveals some more information.

Finally it seems official: Xiaomi and Leica will collaborate but not for the production of cameras on smartphones, but for new filters

According to a preview revealed by the developer Kacper Skrzypek on your site Miuipolska, Xiaomi and Leica will collaborate in all respects. The streets for one collaboration, in the telephony field, there are two: the first, the most common, is the collaboration in the research and development of photographic sensors. How OnePlus and Oppo have done with Hasselblad e I live with Zeiss; the second instead, it's about more l'software area and involves developing filters and other trifles to implement in the camera or gallery app. Well, the information tells us about the partnership between Xiaomi and Leica in this sense.

As we can see from the screenshots from the MIUI source code (the Android skin of the brand's smartphones), Xiaomi and Leica will collaborate in all respects. As we said, this collaboration will not concern the development of a smartphone or even a camera. The names in the code refer to gods all new filters like Leica Monochrom, Leica Natural e Leica Vivid.

A collaboration therefore that will see yes a photo enhancement, but only during editing and not shooting. A very clever solution, in my opinion, which allows you to keep production costs are controlled. In fact, if the collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica had concerned the development of a sensor, we would have paid not poco us users. In this way instead, too older smartphones but equipped with MIUI 13 they will receive these filters via an update.
