Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra can remotely drive a car with 5G SA

UPDATE AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE

We talked extensively about the capabilities of Xiaomi Mi 10 Incredibly both intermini photo than in terms performance. It is no secret that it is currently the most powerful smartphone of all. Not only the accomplice of this latest generation hardware equipment but also a series of exclusive features that make it the most complete top of the range device on the square. While we await his arrival in Europe however, we are told that his capabilities are coming as well: it can in fact drive a car remotely through the use of 5G technology. Demonstration tomorrow.

The new Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra flagship has the ability to drive a car from afar thanks to a digital joystick and 5G technology

Based on what emerged on Chinese social networks, in particular Weibo, the device in question will be the protagonist of a very special event tomorrow. This is a road demonstration in which Mi 10 Ultra will turn into a remote control for a real car. This will be driven by the smartphone remotely via technology 5G SA (stand alone). ueto to prove the minimum latency, almost non-existent, of the homonymous network.

As we can see from the poster above, however, we know that most likely Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra will be transformed into a joystick to operate the car and that it will communicate with it via the 5G SA technology. The difference between SA and NSA networks is simple: the second "attaches to 4G" making the use more expensive and the passage of data slower (hence it is called “non-standalone”) while the first is autonomous and uses only the 5G network. This leads to faster data passing with a consequent decrease in latency.

To tell us this is the company's big game Chang Cheng which publishes a very interesting teaser. Inside this you can see a car coming out of a parking lot (remotely piloted of course) that detects the presence of obstacles during the maneuver. All with a nice truck alongside, just to make things easy. Tomorrow we will update this article with photos and videos (possibly) of the event. Stay tuned!

07 / 09 / 2020 UPDATE

As promised here is the demonstration video showing a professional pilot “Use” the car through the smartphone. The network that is created between the Mi 10 Ultra and the car is due to a speaker-style system located on the front hood of the car. It is through this that the device and the car communicate. Interestingly, the latency is non-existent: PING at 1ms. This means that the vehicle's responsiveness is the same as actually driving it.

There are two drivers: one who drives the car “really” and one who drives the car remotely. The first is Liang Jiaxing, racing car professional, while the latter is Gao Xiang, car driver in the e-sports field. It is therefore a real race in which the two drivers will cover a distance of well 1158 km, a distance that virtually leads from Tianjin (north east China) to Shanghai (east China). Everything was organized to perfection: there is a power plant inside the stable with professional mechanics and technicians. From what we understand inside the stable there is a sort of unit which ensures that the e-sport driver has the opportunity to drive without sudden drops in performance and lag.

All thanks to the connection 5G. They are not missing overtaking and drifting like in real track racing. In short, a practical demonstration of how the new generation connectivity is revolutionary (and useful in some fields) and how the new smartphone is a pure power.
