Xiaomi Mi Band Triples Sales With Apple Watch!

Another great achievement for Xiaomi, this time coming from the smartband industry! To date, IDC is an international company gathering and analyzing marketing data that has provided the results of the smartband sales surveys for the third quarter of 2016.

The IDC report shows the top five companies in the world for the sale of basic wearables, namely fitness bands, which alone make up 85% of the wearables market. In first place in this ranking we find Fitbit, which recently acquired Pebble and risks alienating the favor of the latter's audience composed mainly of loyal users, because the acquisition only concerned the software and intellectual property side, while production of existing and future products will be finished. These also include the three new models that had already been fully funded in the latest campaigns on Kickstarter. Fitbit shipped a total of 5,3 million devices in the last quarter compared to 4,8 million in the same period of 2015. Fitbit now controls 23% of the market, with a slight increase from 21,4% last year.

Second on the list is Xiaomi, whose sales of the Mi Band, equipped with a heart control sensor and a very affordable price compared to the competition, positions it above other big names such as Garmin, Apple and Samsung. Sales of the Mi Band for the last quarter are 3,8 million units: about just a hundred thousand more than in the same period last year, but more than three times what Apple managed to sell in the same span of time, even after the release of the new Apple Watch 2! Xiaomi's market share now stands at 16.5%.

Garmin, on the other hand, ranks third, with 1,3 million devices sold in the third quarter of 2016. But the real shocking fact is that Apple is only in fourth place, ahead of Samsung, and is the only one of the aforementioned that loses a ' huge market share compared to last year. Apple only managed to sell 1,1 million units in the analyzed period, a result very in contrast to last year's figure of 3,9 million. This result brings Apple's market share from 17,5% in 2015 to 4,9% today.

Samsung closes the top 5 in sales, with 1 million devices sold and a 4,5% market share, just under double that of last year.
