Xiaomi explains how Mi MIX Fold solved the problem of heat dissipation

Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold is making a name for itself. Today it officially went on sale in China and is doing dizzying numbers despite its price. But basically it is the cheapest of the folding. This kind of device has some problems with regards to heat dissipation. Through an interesting article published on official channels, the brand explains what the difficulties were and how they were overcome. Here are the details.

Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold has solved the problem related to its nature "stupidly". It will seem trivial but one of the worries related to heat dissipation in a foldable smartphone is precisely the fact that it is foldable. Let's think about it: if we take a foldable, we will understand that its internal construction is not identical in the left and right wing. The part that contains the processor will inevitably be the hottest while the other will not. This means there will be one heat imbalance in the two wings.

Well, Mi MIX Fold has solved the flaw using a very trivial, albeit efficient, "butterfly" mechanism. As we can understand from the image above, the part of the smartphone that contains the SoC (hottest component) is joined to the other wing of the device through a sort of hinge that acts as a bridge. In here the heat passes as if inside a conduit. We will understand for ourselves that if the heat is distributed over a larger surface, then the dissipation will be more effective.

But that's not all. According to the data that the company communicates, the mechanism of cooling is a hybrid: use a combination of liquid, thermal gel, multilayer graphite sheets, bending resistant graphite sheets e a copper sheet. This ultimately provides a dissipation surface of 35 square inches. Graphite is a key element and hence the high price of the device. The hinge is made with this material which, according to studies, after 200.000 folds it has lost its dissipation capacity by only 3/5%.
