Xiaomi Mi Play with MediaTek Helio P35: is it really that bad?

After a couple of weeks of rumors and leaks, Xiaomi Mi Play it was officially presented yesterday. The smartphone, as the name suggests, is part of the Mi series and therefore, in theory, should be more premium than Redmi devices.

The fact that makes the nose turn up a bit 'online users, however, is the fact that the smartphone is equipped with a processor MediaTek Helio P35, which some may seem more suitable for the aforementioned series Redmi. But is it really like that? We discover it immediately thanks to a benchmark from the well-known AnTuTu app!

Xiaomi Mi Play with MediaTek Helio P35: is it really that bad?

Xiaomi Mi Play Mediatek Helio P35

Yes, we know, the AnTuTu test does not give us any information on how the device will behave in real use, but it still helps us to understand on what level we are in terms of general performance.

As you have already seen in the picture above, the MediaTek Helio p35 on board the Xiaomi Mi Play managed to get 86352 points, so better than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 that does not go much further than the 60000 points, but not to the levels of a Snapdragon 636 that is around the 110000.

Now that we know the theoretical power of this CPU, we can say that the prefix "Mi" is not exactly nonsense. In fact, many of you will remember that the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite presented in March this year came with a poco performing Snapdragon 625 and a very attractive price; we could say the same of the Mi Play on sale for only 140 € (in China).

As for the physical characteristics of the processor, we know that it is based on TSMC FinFET 12nm technology, with eight Cortex-A53 cores and a clock of 2,3Ghz. The GPU supplied is instead an Imagination PowerVR GE8320 (the same inside the MediaTek Helio P22) which however runs at a higher frequency (680Mhz) and which supports screens with Full HD + resolution and up to 20: 9 aspect ratio.

The MediaTek Helio P35 can then work with both LPDDR3 and LPDDR4x RAM (4GB and 6GB respectively) as well as with eMMC 5,1 memory, unfortunately no UFS 2,1. From a photographic point of view, the processor supports two 13MP sensors or a single 25MP sensor, there is dedicated hardware to create photos with the bokeh effect, electronic image stabilization (EIS), and automatic rolling compensation shutter (RSC) to eliminate the jelly effect when recording moving objects.

Finally, the Helio P35 is able to run a facial recognition system with AI (artificial intelligence), create smart photo albums (recognize faces) and multi-frame noise reduction (shoot more photos to reduce noise). While for the connectivity we have dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE and ViLTE.

We end the post with a question for you: do you think Xiaomi was wrong to equip the Mi Play with a MediaTek Helio P35? Comment below with your opinion!

A 636 would have been better, the mediatecks are not up to the snapdragon, but I don't think it will be a bad device, even for the price with which it will be presented in Europe, which I believe will be quite affordable for everyone.

If it's under the 150 euro it's to buy.

It fits as a smartphone ... I see it as an alternative MIUI to A2 lite ... This I play for no more than €150 is excellent, with a higher price however it would collide with redmi note 5 which (Belongs to design, but it is still a matter of tastes) is undoubtedly superior.

With that memory a faster processor does not make a difference.
