Until today, Xiaomi has also been able to conquer the TWS headphones market but had never dared to propose a model equipped with ANC technology. However, its debut in this market takes place in the best possible way, because it keeps faith with the excellent quality / price ratio that has always distinguished it from the most famous brands. Here, therefore, the new Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro arrive on the global market, which offer active cancellation of the runor, transparency mode, exaggerated autonomy and a unique elegance but I do not want to spoil too much because I tell you everything within this review.
As always, we start from the unboxing experience which in this case already announces the good that awaits us with the actual product. Super elegant packaging, with a sturdy cardboard in black color inside which we find the following equipment:
- Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro;
- Multilingual manuals including Italian:
- USB Type-C charging cable;
- 4 pairs of rubber pads of different sizes in soft silicone;
- Additional 3 pairs of memory foam rubber pads of different sizes.
And precisely with regard to the memory foam rubber pads, I emphasize that in addition to being more comfortable in the fit of the earphones, they allow the audio flow to be better conveyed and therefore improve the music listening experience, even if these are less suitable for sports, since sweat could compromise its elasticity but for sports you can always use standard silicone rubber pads.
However, I have to make a further clarification, unfortunately negative, as the company does not declare any IPXX certification, so theoretically Xiaomi's earphones would not withstand raindrops or sweat, but personally I must say that I have used them in activities in which the my sweating looked like a new Trevi Fountain, yet they came out unscathed.
Ok let's start analyzing the charging case, which as shapes resembles other models already seen at Xiaomi, but here the beautiful matte black color stands out as well as the fact that the materials to the touch are slightly rubberized, increasing the grip with the sleeve, avoiding accidental falls. But above all, the elegance of black always remains immaculate because the company has probably used an anti-dirt treatment, which in fact does not seem to settle on the surface. On the front we have a small white monochromatic LED, which signals the possible charge of the battery, or if it remains fixed for five seconds then we do not need further recharging, while if this flashes then it is the case to work for recharging.
We can view the status of the LED by opening the lid or by pressing the function button located on the right side of the cup. This button will also be used, if held down for a few seconds, to pair the headphones, but if you have a smartphone equipped with MIUI, none of this will be necessary as you will see an Apple-style pop-up appear, from which you can also view precisely the percentage of residual charge of the individual earphones as well as of the case itself.
Speaking of battery and autonomy, the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro charging box offers a 500 mAh unit that can be recharged in two ways: via a Type-C cable that will be inserted into the input positioned at the bottom or wirelessly, helping us in positioning on the base, with the design of the charging flash which is located on the back of the case, the side where we can also admire the excellent and robust hinge opening the lid.
It takes about 1 hour for the box to fill up with energy, which in turn allows the earphones to be recharged for a further 4 times. These instead integrate a 40 mAh battery which in fact gives about 6 hours of listening to music in standard mode, obtaining in fact about 30 full hours of use. There is also fast charging, which with only 10 minutes will allow you to use the Xiaomi headphones for 90 minutes. Excellent values, but not improvable, indeed if you take advantage of the ANC mode and the best codec available, you must take into account that the autonomy of a single charge will reach about 4 hours maximum.
By opening the cup, you can further notice the elegance and constructive solidity of this product. A super magnet will make the closure firmly, but above all the lid integrates the Hall sensor, which in fact immediately activates the headphones it protects. There is no unwanted movement or creaking of the plastics and even the magnets that attract the earphones are very efficient.
But the real protagonists are the earphones, with an in-ear design but with a more tapered and less chubby shape than what we were used to seeing in the Xiaomi ecosystem. Another design gem is the touch surface, which we find in the upper part of the drivers, covered with ceramic material, significantly increasing the reactivity of the touch that I have always found fast and responsive.
Despite the in-ear shape, the wearability of the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro is pleasant and above all their stability is worthy of a premium product. Looking more closely at the headphones we can see the presence of the proximity sensor that will perform the automatic play / pause function when we wear or remove the earphones from the ears. There are also 3 microphones, one of which is dedicated to wind reduction and always for quality, the metal screens that Xiaomi used to protect the microphone and driver are perfect.
The same opaque material treated against dirt, envelops the entire structure of the earphones that offer 12 mm dynamic drivers, which in turn return a clean and well-balanced sound, with particular efficiency in listening to speech, as it could be video. on Youtube or television series and / or movies.
The connection takes place by means of a Bluetooth 5.0 with excellent signal stability and a decidedly reduced delay, although in the gaming field we may notice some limitations, especially with fast games such as frenetic shooters etc .. Overall, however, we rely on the SBC codec / AAC but on some smartphones it is possible to appreciate the quality of the LHDC (low latency and high-definition audio codec) codec.
I experienced a small disappointment with the touch controls, which I emphasize being responsive and precise, due to the fact that these are limited to a few functions that cannot be customized, since compared to the Chinese counterpart, we do not have an application to arrangement. The downside of this absence turns out to be more than anything else the fact that we will never receive updates, although in the current state of things I do not think there is a need, if not in expanding the commands, maybe a triple touch etc ..
In particular, we could issue the following commands:
- Double tap on one of the two earpieces: answer / close a call
- Double tap on right earpiece: Play / Pause
- Double tap on the left earphone: call up the virtual assistant
- Long press on one of the two earphones: activation of the ANC mode and relative passage to transparency mode, cancellation of wind noise and finally deactivation of ANC.
Some basic commands are therefore absent, such as the skip of the music tracks and the volume control. On the positive side, however, the absence of Chinese voices announcing the chosen mode, replaced by more immediate and understandable sounds.
I have already praised the sound quality released by the drivers but I particularly appreciated the work done by the 3 microphones and the algorithm with which the headphones handle ambient noise. In the video review I show you just how despite a chaos in the background, my voice is well recognized, making it understandable and ringing even in rather extreme conditions. Moreover, there is no master headset and therefore we could use the headphones independently of each other, but in this case it will not be possible to use the ANC function.
But how does the ANC function and its variants behave? As already mentioned, for the company this is the first example of headphones equipped with this technology and therefore did not want to overdo it, thus allowing a reduction of up to -35 dB. Personally, I particularly appreciated the ANC in city traffic conditions, in the supermarket while in the car I preferred to enable the transparency mode in which external noises are amplified while using the headphones, allowing us to remain alert to what is happening around us. The anti-wind mode, on the other hand, could be useful on a bicycle, scooter etc .. in short, in conditions where there is a lot of wind or the like, such as in the office in front of a fan to cool off from this infernal heat.
I was fully satisfied with the efficiency of the individual reduction modes, especially if I think about the price at which these TWS headphones are sold. Furthermore, the listening volume is quite powerful allowing us to isolate ourselves even without active ANC.
I can undoubtedly say that the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro, apart from the long name that makes it seem like a tongue twister, are the best headphones that the company has produced so far and in my opinion they are easily positioned in the Top 5 of the best ANC-equipped headphones on the market.
Surely you will have noticed that my tenor in this review was quite enthusiastic and I could not be otherwise, because at the moment the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro are available on the Goboo store at a price of only € 54,99, using a coupon dedicated. In addition, a welcome gift is reserved for the first 200 orders, such as a Xiaomi shopping bag, but you can further challenge your luck, trying to win tech gadgets, smartphones, discount coupons and much more, by going to this link, where a wheel of fortune awaits you to fill you with prizes.
Shipping is free and takes place from Europe, so no hidden costs. In short, net of some compromises, such as touch controls, Xiaomi TWS earphones are an excellence not to be missed: excellent autonomy, perfection in call management, rather compliant ANC and a superfine sound. In short, I would buy them without thinking twice.
He did it again !!! At the first try, Xiaomi managed to pull out a pair of headphones with ANC function, to say the least poco narcotics. Too bad some limits for the touch controls, but the perfection of the microphones and the sound returned are unmatched.
