Features of the Xiaomi Mi3 Snapdragon 800

As already mentioned in the foregoing, this version of the Xiaomi Mi3 mounts the Snapdragon 800 processor from clock 2.3Ghz (MSM8274AB version) and is the second launched on the market by Xiaomi after that equipped with Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset, compatible only with 3G Chinese networks .

On this version, the Qualcomm chipset licensee is flanked by 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory, which can not be expanded because there is no micro SD expansion slot. The display is a 5 inch FULLHD panel with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

A version of the Snapdragon 800 chipset with 64GB of internal memory should also be launched, but unfortunately there is still no specific information about it.

The dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi3 are 144 × 73.5 × 8.1 mm and the weight is 145 grams, obviously including 3050mAh battery as it is not removable.

Xiaomi Mi3: Design

From the point of view of design, the Xiaomi Mi3 is most likely one of the most elegant and sophisticated smartphones on the market, a shame about the overall size of the phone not just minimized. I refer in particular to the length of the phone that with its 144 mm does not make it a smartphone that can be easily used with one hand.

Very nice silver finish on the back that, although made of plastic, has an "aluminum" effect. The handle of the phone is not very safe, at times it seems to be somewhat slippery and perhaps just for the type of finish and for these rounded edges that, if one hand it facilitates the grip on the hand others cause a sort of "slippery" effect.

In general, the Mi3 confirms the constructive quality of Xiaomi productions, always characterized by assemblies that permeate the perfection and total absence of "weak points" in the structure.

at the top the 3,5-inch jack for earphones (not supplied), the standard SIM tray and a noise reducer and finally at the bottom the microUSB input slot and the system speaker.

At the front we find the 2 megapixel camera itself and the various sensors on the top. There are three touch backlit buttons on the chin.

In the back we find the 13 mega-pixel camera, the double LED Flash and another microphone for the reduction of hiss.

The FULLHD display with 1920 X 1080 pixel resolution of the Xiaomi Mi3 is absolutely exceptional, both from a brightness point of view and from the level of detail that reaches through the density of 441 PPI.

Thanks to some options in the MIUI V5 settings, you can also switch on the display settings. In addition to the brightness and the usual ability to set it as automatic, you can also change the temperature , saturation of color, the first in BROTH, NATURAL o FREDDO and the second in BRILLIANT o NORMAL.

Another strong point of the Mi3 is certainly the touch, an oversensitive touch that in use really gives a feeling of extreme naturalness to the touch. Among other things, the display can also be used with gloves (and wet fingers), activating the function "glove mode"From the settings menu.

The Xiaomi Mi3 phone reception is excellent. I did not detect, in fact, any problem of loss of signal or of scarcity of the signal. Even the sound in the call is great, while the external speaker volume is a bit weak with active handsfree speaker.
Same talk for navigation in 3G, always fast and without any uncertainty.

The Xiaomi Mi3 GPS is very powerful and no fix was required before it was used. However, I found a problem of "hooking" the satellites into using the phone at home. The Xiaomi Mi3, in fact, does not seem to "digest" the home walls and it looks strange when compared to the speed of fixing and the accuracy of navigation found in the street. Most likely the problem arises from a bug software and therefore from the lack of maturity of this MIUI V5 version for Mi3.

As in other cases I tested WiFi reception by testing the distance from the 2 meters, 5 meters and 7 meters routers in a different room (separated from the router by a very thick wall). I did not detect any signal loss problems. These results:

The Xiaomi Mi3 bluetooth works fine. Again, in this case, it was successfully tested with the equipment installed in my car.

Moving on to discuss the photographic part is necessary to premise that I could not set the resolution of the camera because the camera app, whenever I tried to perform this operation, crashes.

A bug that will definitely be corrected with the first MIUI V5 weekly update (hopefully hopefully!)

Then, the photos were taken at the resolution of 10 mega-pixels and then not at the maximum possible resolution, ie 13 mega-pixels. The Xiaomi Mi3 comes with a 13 megapixel camera with F / 2.2 aperture and dual flash LEDs.

In general, the Mi3 camera has disappointed my expectations, I certainly expected something more in terms of definition of shots. In particular, shots taken in low light conditions tend to shell, especially if zoomed and displayed in displays other than those of the telephone.

Good macros, but in this case too, the yield comes down decisively.

Very good also photos taken with HDR mode. Here's an example:

With the Mi3 camera app, you can also create panoramic pictures in a very simple and intuitive way.

With regard to the video part, the Xiaomi Mi3 reproduces all popular video formats, including divx and mkv, with excellent audio and bitrate.

Xiaomi Mi3050's 3 mAh (non-removable) battery has proven to be a good performance, especially with the ability to set 3 performance settings in different modes, an ad mode High performancea balanced and mode in energy saving.
With the balanced mode I arrived safely until evening and exactly at 22 with a residual autonomy of 8%.

Again in this case, I underline what I mean for intense use:

In conclusion I can tell you that I was very happy with the Xiaomi Mi3, despite the partial disappointment of the photographic part and maybe even the general size.

The Mi3 is certainly not the smallest smartphone in history, but the display frames are not really very small, so use with one hand is not always easy, not to say it's hardly possible.
Exceptional display, surely the best of all the fullhd tested until now. Excellent performance, but from a smartphone that mounts Snapdragon 800 from clock 2.3Ghz we could not expect something different.

MIUI V5 as always outstanding but likely to be improved to fix the camera bug, the one found in the browser in the video review, and that related to the difficulty of hooking the GPS home.

9 the vote assigned to Xiaomi Mi3 would have been a full 10 without the little bugs just described.
