FIRST SENSATIONS

The exquisite construction quality of the Xiaomi takes a further step forward with the use of finally noble materials on its TOP range.
The steel frame is really great, very much iPhone style but really nice.

IMG_20140807_223111

The steel edges are combined with a feeling of absolute ergonomics thanks to the folding back cover (which can be replaced by the Xiaomi Mi4).

In comparison with the Mi3 we notice that the dimensions are visibly more compact while maintaining the same diagonal of Display (5 inches). It's a pity for the thickest millimeter that still contributes to a much firmer grip of the device.

MIUI is decidedly fluid but, very frankly, it is difficult to find improvements compared to the already absolute fluidity of the Mi3.

The display ... I tell you to do ... really great! But Xiaomi has become accustomed to display at first choice. The angle of vision is almost absolute. Is not 4K? Very sincerely ... on a 5 inches I would gladly do it.

Mi3? Mi3S? Mi4?

The more I analyze this amazing smartphone and the more I wonder ... what does the Mi3 have on the Xiaomi ecosystem?

Mi4, in my opinion, is the true successor to the Mi2S. Design is the natural evolution of the Mi2S with the addition of noble materials.

Il Mi3 instead it breaks this evolution by introducing a much more original and, in many ways, experimental design.

Looking at them in succession it almost seems to see, in the Xiaomi evolution, a "off road" definitively rectified with this Mi4.

Let's not misunderstand, I like the design of the Mi3 a lot, but I think Xiaomi has understood the importance of having a Design identity (as Apple has been doing for years, Nokia with the Lumia series, HTC and other famous brands. )

CRITICAL

The device is amazing, on this it does not rain.
But there are a couple of corporate choices that have left us at least doubtful.

Because REMOVE a feature like theNFC from Mi4? This is not a lack of implementation, it is a thoughtful decision to remove NFC connectivity from the device.
The Mi3 comes with NFC, the Mi4 no.

I still remember the disappointment in finding out that Mi3 had taken off connectivity MHL present on the Mi2S. In that case, however, the choice was justified by Xiaomi's CEO with the implementation of a whole host of new screen sharing protocols in WiFi (the MHL was more convenient).

In this case, however, the NFC has been eliminated because, statistically, only 1% of Xiaomi customers use this technology.
We do not discuss the statistics, I think the percentage is also rounded by excess, but it is still a lack.

More precisely, I do not see the "jump" performance from Mi3 to Mi4.

We passed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 to801. From 2.3Ghz a 2.5Ghz. From 2GB of RAM a 3GB.
The focus of the camera has been improved by going from a 'opening from 2.0 to one by 1.8.

And then what?

We had to pass by 3G al 4G and instead the Mi4 4G model will be released later, a sort of Mi4S.

We will have the opportunity to try the Mi4 more fully and to stress it properly but at first sight I do not seem to have the elements to talk about a performance jumping between the two devices.

For the chronach also AnTuTu think like me, we went from 33.000 to 37.000 because of the extra 0.2Ghz and the extra ram GB.

MIUI and Software Updates

Almost confirming that there were no major changes at the device level last night I came across an unexpected discovery.

Mi3 WCDMA ROMs (Cancer) ARE COMPATIBLE WITH Mi4!

I was waiting to know when it would be released multilingual for the Mi4 when downloading the official ROM from the xiaomi.com site I noticed that the link was to the ROM "miui_MI3W_4.8.8_053905b364_4.4.zip”

Then I said ... Let's face it!

Insert the Mi4.8.1 multilanguage 3 zip into the Mi4, open the updater and launch the update ... .tatatataaaaaan ... "UPDATE COMPLETE! PLEASE REBOOT! "

When you reboot, here are the Google Services and the Italian language in the menu.

What can I say, a beautiful surprise that, however, shows how much this Mi4 is really nothing but poco more than an aesthetic reinterpretation of the already excellent Xiaomi Mi3.

well, on the link in the article it is 50 € less (unless you got it at a time where it cost differently) and it is with 24 months of guarantee, why did you get it right there?
