Xiaomi Mi9 Lite - Full Review

This year Xiaomi he really exaggerated. He has accustomed us to churning out different models for every family but perhaps never like the Mi9 they gave us inside.
Xiaomi Mi9, Mi9SE, Mi9T, Mi9T Pro... ... and now he ... the little house ... Xiaomi Mi9 Lite.

The word "Lite" has always been associated with "lightness" as "elimination of the superfluous".
The superfluous for mass can for example be an ultra-high performance processor. A photonic camera, or more NERD than anything else.

For this reason, the "Lite" versions are often ended up being just simple weakened versions of the TOP range whose only advantage over the TOP is the more affordable price.

In this specific case, however, things are not exactly like that.

Let's put this under the magnifying glass Xiaomi Mi9 Lite and find out why.

Xiaomi Mi9 Lite - Design

I will apologize if, to describe this Xiaomi Mi9 Lite, I will often refer to the older brother Mr. Mi9 but in this case the comparison is a must.

In 'unboxing I mentioned that the two smartphones looked aesthetically identical in every way.
If this is true in the materials used, in the finishes of the devices and in the general arrangement of the components (rear three-chamber lock, volume bar and ignition key) the dimensions are not exactly the same.

The Mi9 Lite has the dimensions of 156.8 mm high, 74.5 mm wide and 8.67 mm thick. While for height and width the differences from the Mi9 are not obvious to the naked eye as they are tenths of a millimeter of difference as far as thickness is concerned, the subject changes. One millimeter more thickness you see and hear it being an increase in 13% and passes.

But that's not all it is not a particular problem on an aesthetic level, but turns out to be a advantage in at least 3 areas.

  1. The extra millimeter was masterfully used to integrate an abatteria from ben 4030 mah (22% more battery than the Mi9)
  2. The actual thickness, together with the supplied cover, allows to reach the perfect alignment to the camera lock avoiding the annoying swinging movement of the Mi9.
  3. Another difference that can be observed when looking at the top profile of the device is the presence of Jack from 3.5 for headphones.
Presence also made possible thanks to this extra millimeter and very pleasing to the majority.

Even the general weight does not differ much from the older brother. The Mi9 Lite weighs 179 grams compared to the 173 of the Mi9.

What to say, as owner of the Mi9, I would have gladly given up wireless charging and endured this mere extra millimeter for the benefit of all this.

Chicca is the presence of the logo on the back cover that lights up intermittently acting as a notification led (which actually is missing from the front). Very scenic even if much more useful in the evening or at night than during the day as under the direct light we will find it difficult to perceive the backlight.

Xiaomi Mi9 Lite - Performance

We have spoken of disempowerment ... and there has been a weakening.
Let's move from the monster of the Mi9 with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 to the decidedly less energy-intensive Snapdragon 710.

What does this weakening mean in PRACTICAL terms? Sincerely? Poco.
La general fluidity of the system it is almost the same. Maybe yes ... the 855 has a few less microlag and gives a feeling of fluidity in a bit more but if not in the opening of heavy APP or in the transition from one to another this difference in performance I have not noticed in the use ordinary.

If instead we are more types from Benchmark ... then there is no history!

The 855 snapdragon on the Mi9 scores a full-bodied 427138 while the 710 of the Mi9 Lite only 209631. Virtually the Mi9 has twice the power of the Mi9 Lite

Xiaomi Mi9 Lite - Connectivity

In terms of connectivity nothing is missing from this Mi9 Lite.

Dual SIM Dual Standby with all the Italian bands including the B20 band andband aggregation decidedly fast and complete to access the speeds of the 4G +.

The Mi9 Lite is equipped with NFC module with which we can safely carry out contactless payments with Google Pay or other bank-specific APPs.

Equipped with door IRDA, the Mi9 Lite can be used to control devices such as TVs, air conditioners, stereos and everything that can be controlled via infra red.

There is the much loved and mistreated 3.5 inch jack for earphones... what more could you ask for in life?

Xiaomi Mi9 Lite - Photography

The Xiaomi with the Mi9 has burned a lot (seeIs the Xiaomi Mi9's camera really that poor?"). He had boasted the photographic qualities beyond perhaps the real characteristics of the device and this turned against him.
An excellent cameraphone like the Mi9 has been massacred for presenting itself in the TOP 3 world and, unfortunately, having shown that it does not hold up to several comparisons.

In this case, however, no proclamation, no claim. The Mi9 Lite is not sold as a capera-phone so the expectations are not sky-high but then you realize that with this device you can make beautiful photos.

I will deliberately not start making a pixel -> pixel comparison between photos taken between mi9 and mi9lite as those who decide to buy this device do not want the TOP on the market. He just wants to know if the smartphone takes good pictures.

Well, judge for yourself.

The technical sector is not bad at all.

  • Main camera from 48mpx f1.79
  • Secondary camera from 8mpx
  • Camera for bokeh effect from 2mpx

La front camera is a 32mpx with f2.0 focal and even here, the smartphone will give us great satisfaction.

Xiaomi Mi9 Lite - Battery

As we say "dulcis in fundo". Let's finish this review with the thing I liked most about this Xiaomi Mi9 Lite, battery!
As mentioned previously, the Xiaomi managed to insert a battery from this device ben 4030mah which, coupled with the Snapdragon 710, guarantees a decidedly high autonomy.

With a "bland" use we will succeed in arrive safely in the evening with an 40-50% of remaining battery.
With intensive use definitely covers the day.
On an ultra stress day the Mi9 Lite was able to accompany me from the 4: 30 of the morning to the 22: 30 of the evening without ever seeing the charging cable by recording about 5 hours of display on and 1 hour and a half of voice calls.

With continuous use the device also comes to 7 display hours on... obviously we can't expect it to cover the day though. 🙂

Here the comparison with the older brother I do not even ... let's lose.

Conclusions

If you didn't understand I really liked this Mi9 Lite!
I am a satisfied owner of the older brother but believe me ... for a long time I thought about the "downgrade" mainly because of the extraordinary battery life.

Then, out of male pride, I gave up ... I can't have a phone that is less powerful than my wife's. 🙂

And in any case a device that I can recommend to everyone. Excellent battery, beautiful design (especially the blue color), camera more than good e performance that in the ordinary does not make you regret a top of the range.

And you? What idea did you get of this Xiaomi Mi9 Lite? Let us know in the comments below!

Since I've had it for three months I can have my say. Hardware ok, but operating system (rom) and interface full of bugs, even sensational ones. One above all the well-known problem of the screen lock during phone calls, where with the cheek you activate or deactivate the microphone, start random calls, etc: despite officially saying that the problem is solved, all balls. Hard to find features and settings. Or hidden folders getting lost, app permissions canceling themselves, hardly any app tracker works (all the developers tell me it's xiaomi problem).
