The famous Dutch blog letgodigital has just published images that show us for the first time a new interface patented by Xiaomi most likely for some smartphones coming in the coming months, as well as for the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha presented a few months ago.
Xiaomi patents the MIUI of the future with 360 degree screen support
As we can see in the images in fact, it is a MIUI optimized for devices with surround screen. Let's talk about smartphones just like the just mentioned Mi MIX Alpha, with a curved screen and above all with a portion of the display on the edges.
Xiaomi had submitted the patent for this new interface towards the end of 2018, but only on December 13 was the patent officially approved, becoming part of the database of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), the most important patent organization at world.
Returning to the patent itself. The MIUI for surround display seems to use the side edges of the smartphone to add new features. For example, we see buttons to control music playback, which can be replaced with weather info or even with Xiaomi's AI assistant, XiaoAI. In that case we have a bar that represents the assistant's voice, a bit in the KITT auto style of Supercar. Alternatively, we can also use the border to show all notifications.
Obviously, there will then be the option to set shortcuts so as to open apps or perform other actions from any interface without having to go back to the home.
Finally, the Xiaomi patent also includes a section to use the cameras below the screen. A technology that we will probably see arriving in 2020. Furthermore, the interface is compatible with the screen on the back of the device, in projection of a Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha 2 completely surrounded by a surround screen without the photographic hindrance compartment.
