As anticipated, Xiaomi Redmi 1S mounts the quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset from 1.5Ghz, alongside 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory (twice the previous version), expandable with micro SD up to 32GB. The display is a panel with diagonal from 4.7 inches and resolution HD 1280 x 720 pixel.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Design
The design of the Redmi 1S has nothing to add to what has been said for the previous Hongmi (from this point of view, in fact, the two devices are identical). We quickly reiterate that the Redmi 1S lines differ from the classic rounded design of other Xiaomi devices, though, recently, they were taken from the house for the new Redmi Note.
These differences are particularly noticeable in the front, from the more square lines compared to the previous generation Xiaomi devices.
Contrary to what is said for the front, the rear cover (removable) has a softer line. with a curved design that allows better grip of the phone in the handle and, consequently, greater ease of use with the same hand.
Of XMUMXS Redmi we can also confirm the excellent plastic invoice used for the realization of the smartphone: Xiaomi never deny! In the front we find the cameras (top) on their own 1 megapixels and the sensors of brightness and proximity. On the top edge, however, on the left side, the 1.6 jack for the earphones is present.
At the bottom edge, at the center of the body, we find the microUSB input.
Xiaomi has accustomed us to an unusual positioning of the control keys, so to speak, and in fact even on the Redmi 1S we find "everything" on the left side, that is, the volume keys and the power button for turning on, off and standby.
In the back we find the 8 mega-pixel camera, the LED Flash and the speaker on the side.
Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Display - 4.7 HD Inch
The XmiumXS display on the card is the same as that of the previous Xiaomi Hongmi. However, there are some slight qualitative differences in the panel installed on the new RedMix 1S. In fact, the new device's panel while offering the same HD 1 x 1280 pixel resolution shows greater clarity in image reproduction.
The pixel grid, already barely visible on the Xiaomi Hongmi, is even less visible on the Redmi 1S, so much so that one could confuse its display with a FULLHD resolution panel.
However, as you can see from the comparison picture, the colors of Xiaomi Redmi 1S are a bit 'more faded than those of Hongmi.
Not very good, however, the visibility of the display when it is exposed to direct sunlight.

As for the telephone part and the use of the 3G in navigation, I can only confirm the high quality of Xiaomi Redmi 1S in this regard.
The audio in the headphones is also very good, as well as that in the ear capsule during calls and with active hands-free.
Everything is confirmed as positive for WiFi and Bluetooth as well. The GPS, on the other hand, is even better than the one installed on the previous version. From the test done, in fact, it was always very fast in the fix and very accurate in navigation. From this point of view there is the presence of a Qualcomm chipset and not Mediatek.
Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Quality of cameras
Although the device is equipped with a 8 megapixel sensor, the shots made with Xiaomi Redmi 1S are on average an excellent level in any light condition. What struck me particularly is the camera shutter speed.
Discreet photos taken in low light conditions, the same ones tend to be a little granular.

Very good flash, powerful but at the right point, diffuses light uniformly over all the elements captured and in this seems to be better optimized than the previous Hongmi.

Good video recording in FULLHD, with a focus and a quick enough pan. In general, recording quality is higher than average.
Redmi 1S plays all the most popular video formats and does it very well. Playback is very fluid, good color rendering and great sound. Very fast and free from impending is also the transition from one point to the other of the video.
Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Battery
The battery of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is very satisfactory and guarantees a better autonomy than the previous Hongmi. To compare the autonomy of the two devices I tried to simulate a day of use similar to that described in the review of the Hongmi and the final results of the test, albeit slightly, are in favor of this new Redmi 1S.
With the previous Hongmi, on a day of intense use, I reached the 18.55 with a residual 2%, but on Redmi 1S, I found the same level of residual autonomy at about 20.00 so the phone has at its disposal about 1 now in more autonomy.
Again in this case, I underline what I mean for intense use:
- 3G always active (with 2 email accounts in push, whatsapp, facebook, hangouts, skype and twitter with active notifications);
- WiFi browsing of approximately 3 hours and a half;
- GPS navigation of 30 minutes about;
- bluetooth always active;
- use of the camera to realize some of the photos of this review;
- use the WordPress application to update GizChina.it.
Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Final houghts
Brava Xiaomi, never mind! In these few words I could summarize my final considerations on the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, that is, a smartphone that fully satisfied me.
Xiaomi seems to have improved as good as it did with the previous model, adopting a Snapdragon 400 processor, perhaps more reliable and even more supportive of the Mediatek chip, moreover, and this is one thing that has made most of you readers happy , without having to give up dual SIM support.
I do not think it is necessary to add more to a device for which they are talking about, which is a great success for international sales for the first version (Hongmi) that Xiaomi is replicating for this new XMUMXS Redmi.
