Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime, Lenovo ZUK Z2 and Meizu M5 Comparison

The XiaomiToday.com site today offers a comparison of mid-range smartphones, where you can find devices with good features but with a price-sensitive eye, and consider the Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime, the Lenovo ZUK Z2 and the Meizu M5, which are believed to be the most popular and appreciated terminal in this category.

Display

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 and the Lenovo ZUK Z2 have a 5 display with 1920x1080p Full HD resolution, with the Meizu M5 featuring a 5.2 display with 1280x720p resolution, a difference compared to the other two, not noticeable to the naked eye .

The difference between the resolutions begins to notice when we compare the same picture on the three devices.

In fact, we can say that with these brightness settings, the Meizu has a great success, and if we talk about color success, the Lenovo Zuk Z2 sings in the greens that have a reddish tinge. The viewing angle is at the same level for all three smartphones.

From the point of view of the display, the comparison is definitely won by the Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime thanks to Full HD resolution and excellent color reproduction. The second place is Lenovo for its brightness but loses itself towards Xiaomi for some reddish tones. Last place for the Meizu M5, which would, however, put riders on the brightness side.

Camera

The camera is an increasingly important element in choosing a new mobile phone. Precisely for this reason, smartphone manufacturers try to offer excellent performance for all price ranges, including the one we are talking about.

All three models have a 13MP rear camera, but the focal sensors and apertures are different, so they offer a different result and experience of use. All this is obviously looking at the sample images below: green dominates the first photo (Lenovo ZUK Z2); in the photo taken with the RedMi 4 Prime there are obvious yellow shadows, while Meizu supplies reddish photos.

In the next series of shots, the RedMi 4 (center image) gives the best results in terms of color rendering, balance and brightness. This is confirmed for other shots in a closed place, where Lenovo and Meizu have more gray and less vivid colors.

Changing the light conditions, however, RedMi loses its primacy in favor of Meizu, although in my eye accustomed to trying to distinguish the nuances of colors, the pictures made with the Meizu are shorter and somewhat more overlapping. the Xiaomi manages to focus on details.

Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime:

In conclusion, the editorial staff of XiaomiToday.com prefers the brightness and accuracy of the performance of the Meizu M5, which I personally do not share, just because the various functions of the camera's app can give a touch more to what it is a greater light balance in Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime. Tail lamp for the Lenovo ZUK Z2.

Design

On the aesthetic side, which also has an effect on the perception of solidity and handling, we must first talk about building materials. Currently, more and more manufacturers use metal as the main material for their terminals, so we can say that there has been great progress since the outer shell of smartphones was mostly plastic.

From the construction point of view, all the devices we are analyzing are all made from different materials: the body and physical buttons of the Meizu M5 are made of polycarbonate, one of the most used materials for this purpose. Thanks to the wide range of temperatures it can withstand, it is the easiest element to give shape and color. Meizu also added spray paint and pearl powder to give it the look of a smartphone with a metal body.

While the build quality is overall very good, it still remains plastic which gives a different kind of feel to metal. Moreover, it can be easily scratched.

What can be evaluated during the purchase is that the central mBack button is also a scanner for identification through fingerprints and other functions can also be set. The Meizu M5 is produced in numerous colors such as Mint Green, Glacier White, Champagne Gold, Sapphire Blue and Matte Black.

The ZUK Z2 Lenovo has a glass top and bottom layer that features other top-of-the-range mobile phones such as Apple or Sony and gives a good feel to the touch.

Even the Lenovo ZUK Z2 comes with a central physical button, called U-Touch Home, which according to the company can be used more than 300.000 times and with which it is possible to associate different gestures with different functions. The key is slightly wider and square than the Meizu.

As for the Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime instead, it is built with a metal body with a very common working process in all areas of the mechanics and thanks to the precision blasting every detail is perfect. The front panel is covered by an 2.5D curved glass layer.

For the rear panel, on the other hand, two different technologies have been used for the upper part and the lower part, thus guaranteeing the best signal quality.

Although the design of Meizu is very eye-catching, plastic is easily ruined, while Xiaomi's metal makes it acceptable, but Lenovo's glass will certainly win the challenge of design.

Battery

The evolution in the creation of smartphones also passes through the battery, both on the management side of apps, and the capacity of the battery itself with all the attention to the connecting materials and the temperatures reached. These comparison devices really offer a plus on this side.

The Meizu M5 has a battery from 3070mAh; the RedMi 4 Prime comes with a 4100mAh battery; the Lenovo ZUK Z2 has a battery from 3500mAh. Through AnTuTu we can determine how they behave, starting with a 90% capacity and a display brightness at 100%:

  • after 60 minutes of "heavy" use the ZUK Z2 reports a charge of the 68%, so with a consumption of the 22%;
  • after the same time period and the same mode of use, the RedMi 4 Prime still has the 72% charge, so the consumption was of the 18%;
  • by testing the Meizu M5 in the same way, this remains a charge of the 65%, so the consumption is at 25%.

So the RedMi 4 Prime secures the win in this segment, but you have to keep in mind that Lenovo has a slightly lower battery capacity than the Xiaomi, so the optimization work consumed on the ZUI was very good. Also acceptable is the Meizu result.

Conclusions

In general, all three challengers show similar results, so it is difficult to define which of them is better. This leads us to say that in this price range we can find many models built in different ways but for which the manufacturers have given their best to make their device excel. Keeping in mind that the performance of the various SoCs have not been taken into consideration in this comparison, it can be said that the Xiaomi RedMi 4 Prime turns out to be the best choice among the three.
