The camera department has never been a strong point of the Xiaomi phones, but with the latest devices launched by the Chinese giant, things seem to change. Take for example the Mi Note 3, which was the first phone to enter the top 10 of the best DxOMark camera phones (we talked about it here). Now, thanks to the availability of the first samples of Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, you can check if the quality has improved even on low-end phones, in addition to those of mid-range and high.
On the back side Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is equipped with a single camera with a resolution of 12 MP and an opening f / 2.2. Supports phase detection autofocus and HDR and, below the sensor, there is a dual flash LEDs two-tone. It can record videos with a maximum resolution of 1080p to 30 fps. The front camera has a resolution of 5 MP and can also record video to 1080p. Photos taken in good light conditions show a very high level of detail and also with good color accuracy. However, when it comes to low light conditions (indoors and at night), the noise level increases dramatically and there is a consistent loss of detail. It's not something unacceptable for a phone in its price range, but we're definitely far from superior camera phones.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus can take acceptable pictures, but it's not a phone that focuses primarily on the camera. So if your main concern is the room department, it's best to head to a more performing Xiaomi Mi A1, which can be found at a similar price (here our best offers). As for other specifications, as we now know the device sports an almost borderless display with a 18 aspect ratio: 9, a diagonal of 5,99 inches and a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Under the hood, there is a Qualcomm's Octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, which can run at a maximum frequency of 2 GHz.
The SoC is paired with 3 or 4 GB of RAM depending on the variant you choose to buy and 32 or 64 GB of internal memory that you can expand with a micro SD. The battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh, which is much higher than, for example, a Mi A1 (3080 mAh). The body is entirely made of metal and has been announced in four different shades: gold, pink, blue and black.
