Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus: first hands on!

About a week ago, Xiaomi presented its first low-end phone with a proportioned display 18:9 it's almost" border less. We are obviously talking about the Xiaomi Redmi 5 (, promising protagonist of the first unboxing) and of his older brother, announced at the same time, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Regarding the latter, one might already think that the Plus version is actually intended to replace the Redmi Note 5, but Xiaomi has over time accustomed us to make very similar devices coexist (not just in the name) within its variegated ecosystem smartphone.

The screen is definitely the biggest innovation of this phone with regards to the Redmi series. While Redmi 4 Pro had a significantly smaller 5 inch panel, here we find an important display from well 5,99 inches diagonal (just like Xiaomi Mi Mix 2). We speak, as mentioned, a screen with aspect ratio to 18: 9 and a resolution Full HD + of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Although the display is large, the phone remains quite compact thanks to its proportion ratio, as well as its narrow frames that are reminiscent of LG G6 (dimensions: 158,8 x 75,45 x 8,05, weight: 179,5 grams). Whoever buys Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, will have to say goodbye to the capacitive keys below the screen, while the front camera remains in the position where we are used to seeing it, next to the headset for calls.

The body of Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is completely made of aluminum and is not different from that of Redmi Note 4, but is more manageable thanks to the more rounded edges. The back side houses a room with a resolution of 12 MP but that, as seen from the photos, is not gold-plated like that of the Mi Mix 2. Below the camera you can find a dual-tone LED flash and a circular fingerprint reader, just like other mid-range Xiaomi phones. At the top, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has a audio jack from 3,5 mm for headphones and a very useful and versatile IR sensor, which allows it to be transformed into a convenient universal remote control.

On the left side, there is the tray that houses a double SIM: you can use the second slot to house an additional phone card or, alternatively, a micro SD card to expand the internal memory.
