The new series Redmi K20 presented in Beijing has managed to bring a specific / price ratio never seen before in the top of the range category, in fact gaining the nickname of Flagship Killer 2.0.
Now, despite both the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro have all the necessary hardware, including the now rare 3.5mm audio jack, the Xiaomi sub-brand has not been able to equip its terminals with a beam emitter infrared.
Redmi K20 series without IR emitter, Lu Weibing: There was no space
Chinese users, a little annoyed by this lack, did not hesitate to complain directly to Redmi's general manager, Lu Weibing, on the Weibo social network; however, the interested party responded fairly quickly.
In fact, Lu Weibing admitted that on Redmi K20 there was really no physical space to insert the emitter. The available space has been shared by the motor that automatically brings out the front camera to take selfies and the audio jack from 3.5mm. Furthermore, the port is supported by a Mi Sound system for the production of Hi-Res certified Hi-Fi audio that obviously needs additional space.
In support of Lu Weibing, the marketing director also arrived, Wang Teng, who basically reiterated the same concept, there was no material space for the IR emitter. Redmi decided that having the front camera pop-up mechanism for a screen without notches or holes was more important than this niche feature.
In any case, if you really want to control a TV or whatever it is through your smartphone, Lu Weibing has recommended the purchase of the Xiaomi MIJIA Universal Remote Control, or a device that can emit an infrared ray at 360 degrees to control any device equipped with an IR receiver nearby.
Now tell us yours, were you disappointed with the lack of this feature? Would you have given up the audio jack for the IR port? Let us know in the comments section below!
one of the big and famous usp of redmi phones are its IR ports. Please never miss in any of your phones. I do understand the design constraints but if there's a will there will always be a way. I will also never advice to take out the audio jack (which is also equally imp) still with the current generation.
Redmi phones are synonymous with IR Blaster + Audio Jack. (Audio jack until we have good bluetooth headphones in the coming future)
IR blaster is the unique features provided by redmi buy not in k20 pro… really disappointing. Instead of 3.5mm audio port you could provide IR blaster. Hope in next updated phone we will see IR blaster.
ooh! why can MI design the IR port there??? if planned more\they could find place……… they could have put the 3.5mm jack in the rear side of the phone and mount the IR instead. disappointing not to have the ir port in k20…. 🙁
also they could add the sd card slot or OTG facility.
poor planning !!! 🙁
other than that rest of the phone is very nice …………..

I would have easily given up the audio jack for the IR as I use bluetooth headphones and the IR certainly happens to me to use it more often.
I hope someone asks him directly about the global version rather than this nonsense to make jokes ...
