Xiaomi has released the security update program for its smartphones

How many updates will my smartphone receive Xiaomi? This is the question that many users ask us every day. Unfortunately there is no universally valid rule, unless the brand itself releases the update program for your devices. And that's exactly what happened poco does. Thanks to the report by XDA (via Android Authority) Xiaomi has released a extensive document with what are the security updates of the devices in its catalog. Some flagships will receive quarterly security updates, while the devices Android One will continue to receive monthly patches. But let's see everything in detail.

How many and which security updates will Xiaomi smartphones receive? Here is the official document that answers the much asked question

Xiaomi has updated the document that establishes the frequency with which security updates will arrive on devices, including Redmi e POCO. Here are the words of the brand:

We release monthly and quarterly updates of security patches on Xiaomi devices for at least two years after the products go on sale on the market. The monthly and quarterly security updates will include Android security patches released by Google, as well as patches for specific issues

But now let's proceed with the list. For the moment the only smartphones will be updated monthly will be the three devices belonging to the Android One family:

  • Xiaomi Mi A2
  • Mi A2 Lite
  • We are A3

Then there are the smartphones that they will update with quarterly and they are all those you find below:

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro Max

The list also includes Redmi devices and POCO, but also Xiaomi, which the company has launched in the Indian and non-European market. Those, of course, don't concern us that much.

It must be said, however, that this list and this information are not to be taken as a bible. In fact we find some inconsistencies such as the presence on both lists of devices such as Xiaomi Mi A3. One could say: sure, if the update is monthly, then it is also triestral: true, but why then are the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite not there?

In fact it is the same company that confirms that updates may not be released with the official cadence described in the document. For this reason it is not even advisable to take what is written above as pure gold standard.

Finally, remember that this list refers only to those that are security updates. There is no mention in any way of MIUI updates nor of the major releases of Android. To know those we can see this list, which is not official anyway.

I would just like to ask but REDMI NOTE 10 PRO European model, as far as Android is concerned, it stops at version 13 but the MIUI version also stops at version 14, or does it still go on?

Mha… I have a redmi note 8 first version that hasn't received a security patch since February 2022. Other than every quarter.
