Xiaomi Songguo Semiconductor restructures, continue investments in AIoT

Creating a processor requires not only a large number of talented engineers, but also sufficient funds to keep development going until a finished product is obtained. As you may know, Xiaomi has been investing in the production of "homemade" processors to be equipped on their devices for quite some time, both to save money and to control the entire assembly line.

Well, today the Xiaomi Group organization department has released some new information regarding the future organizational structure. In the post he revealed that in order to better coordinate with the company's AIoT department and accelerate the R&D (research and development) of the new chips, the team of the wholly owned subsidiary of Xiaomi, Songguo Electronics, has been reorganized.

This entailed the separation of some team members who have formed a new company called Nanjing Dayu Semiconductor, who will have independent financing available.

That being said, Xiaomi continues to hold an 25% stake in Nanjing Big Fish Semiconductor, while the other former members of the team hold and the 75% collectively.

As for Nanjing Dayu Semiconductor, the new company will focus on research and development of AI and IoT chips and solutions, while Songguo will continue to work on SoC chips for mobile phones and development of other AI (artificial intelligence) chips.

Lei Jun, president and CEO of Xiaomi Group, said that Xiaomi gave the Big Fish team a controlling position and encouraged independent funding.

This today is however only the last of the many Xiaomi explorations in fields that perhaps do not belong to it, such as the development of processors and other AI chips. What is meant by this reorganization is that Xiaomi is still very interested in research and development of new technologies and that it will continue to invest more and more in the future.

Now tell us yours. What do you think about Xiaomi and these investments in other fields of technology? Does it seem like something positive? Let us know in the comments section below!
