The project Arises was born years ago but after a few hitches, following a device of the Mi 5 series, it did not continue to exist. Actually this is what we thought. The project is not dead at allIndeed, over the years (5 specifically), Xiaomi has continued to study its processor but has changed some cards on the table. Surge it is no longer Xiaomi's proprietary SoC, but an ISP (Image Signal Processor) which serves to support the photographic sector of smartphones. Today Lei Jun talked about it, let's see what it is.
Xiaomi finally presents the Surge C1, its first Image Signal Processor: it is the first proprietary ISP and is integrated within the Mi MIX Fold
Before we see what it is capable of and what what is ISP Surge C1, it is necessary to say that it was first integrated on Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold, that is the brochure of the company presented today. That said, let's proceed to see its features. First, an ISP is the image signal processor (hence the name), which is part of the CPU of a smartphone. This component is entrusted with the task of supporting all those functions that, in the concrete act, the camera of our device must perform. Thanks to the new Surge C1, Xiaomi has managed to get to 100% higher efficiency than the norm.
Surge C1 has a double filter configuration which allows to process both high and low frequency signals. This has led to a very large margin for improvement compared to before. With the self-developed algorithm, the performance 3A (AF, AWB, AE) most basic and most important have been significantly improved. In detail, here are the meanings of these acronyms:
- AF: better autofocus, therefore the ability to focus, even in low light conditions, on small objects and flat areas;
- AWB: more accurate white balance even in situations where the light is more "complex" such as in the case of ambient light mixed with artificial light
- AE: the parameter refers to a more accurate automatic exposure strategy
