Xiaomi tells the behind the scenes of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2022

Is titled "The Making Of”The documentary with which Xiaomi tells the 80 days in which the work "History of the night and fate of the comets" by Gian Maria Tosatti, a work now present in the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2022. “It is the demonstration of how technology can help artists”, declared the author. Let's find out all the details of the collaboration, which further increases the value and imagination of Xiaomi in our country.

“The Making Of”: Xiaomi 12 Pro tells the work of Gian Maria Tosatti at the Venice Biennale

Gian Maria Tosatti's “History of the night and fate of comets” is a large environmental installation, created ad hoc on the one hand to fill the spaces of the Tese delle Vergini at the Venice Arsenal, on the other hand to tell about our contemporaneity. It is not a trivial work: exploring it, viewers may also find themselves disoriented. It is a real evocative journey through an abandoned factory, a house emptied of all signs of life and a pier completely immersed in darkness.

The title of the installation is evocative and very beautiful, while the project aims to tell our story through a journey in which loss and possible reconquest follow a path very similar to a play in two acts and a prologue. The author is Gian Maria Tosatti, who has just thought of a sensory and emotional tour for the spectators. The Roman artist, Neapolitan by adoption, created the work together with the curator Eugenio Viola: both are definitely aiming for the conquest of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale.

Among other things, it is the only work present in our national pavilion. A choice not without controversy, since the appointment of Tosatti has greatly polarized the critics. Having said that, Tosatti's project had a very interesting genesis, excellently documented in the doc "Making Of" created in 80 days (it took so many to complete the work) using one Xiaomi 12 Pro, the latest top of the range of the Chinese brand, which this year is sponsor of the Italian Pavilion. Here is the documentary in question below, published by Xiaomi Italia itself on its official YouTube channel:

Davide Lunardelli, Xiaomi Italia head of marketing: "We have entered the history of art"

Tosatti's project is therefore like an open work: there are no established positions, but a path that ignites human questions par excellence. Here is how the author comments on his presence at the Venice Biennale: "This exhibition, after all, is the highest cultural forum in the world. Making a statement from here is essential".

Even Xiaomi Italia itself, through the words of its head of marketing Davide Lunardelli, wanted to comment on the collaboration: "In this extraordinary context, Xiaomi has entered the history of art with its support for the Italian Pavilion, documenting the construction site of the work created by Tosatti and curated by Viola, trying to imagine its final realization and previewing its vision through the production of exclusive video content. Demonstrating how technology can help artists by amplifying the exposure of their messages to an increasingly transversal audience and supporting a continuous dialogue between the work of art and the visitors themselves".

But this is not the only initiative promoted by Xiaomi during the Venice Biennale. In addition to the documentary you can enjoy above, the company has produced another exclusive video, titled “Venice by Night”. It is a portrait of the nocturnal secrets of the lagoon city, or a reportage edited by the photographer Lady Tarin, who only for this occasion did not shoot with her cameras but exclusively with the smartphones of the Xiaomi 12 series. The most beautiful photos will be exhibited at the Gallery Marignana for one month, from 6 May to 6 June 2022.
