Xiaomi eliminates the front camera using a dual display

One of the worries that many developers are banging their heads on is the positioning of the front camera on smartphones. At a time when research is increasingly moving towards a full-screen device, any trick always leads us to the same point: the camera remains in front. With mechanisms pop-up or with tiny holes, but it is always there. The attempt to Xiaomi to put a photographic sensor under the display is paying off, but is not marketable yet. So how do you solve this dramatic problem? Simply putting the front camera behind and using a double display.

Do you hate the front camera so much you don't want it anymore? Do not worry, Xiaomi moves it to you and puts a dual display in it

In a recent patent filed by Xiaomi with the CNIPA ( "China National Intellectual Property Administration"), the brand would seem to have found an alternative way to permanently eliminate the front camera, waiting for the technology of an invisible sesnore under the display to mature. As said, Xiaomi is not the first brand to try this solution: in the past Universal Z20 has already done the same.

xiaomi dual display

As we see from the images of the patent, Xiaomi would have in mind to develop a smartphone without front camera but with a double display, one forward and one behind. And the cameras? They are all positioned on the back side, but given the presence of an additional screen there will be no problems to see how the photographic shots will look. The sub-fund will consist of three sensors, one main larger and two smaller on its sides. As for the general design we note one minimal presence of edges, but still a little more pronounced on the lower side.

In these two images instead we see how there is a difference between the "Chin", Or the chin, of the two displays: while the front one is characterized by a fairly thin chin, but still present as we said before, the one back It is characterized by a rather broad chin.

Now we come to the difficulties of use: as for Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, we will undoubtedly find it problematic to use a display, or better two, of this type. Even if you don't see it in these sketches trace any of the surround-type curved edges, the more glass there is, the more fragile the device is. It is clear that the software discourse must also be well balanced: as well as one MIUI for Mi Mix Alpha, there must be an MIUI made ad hoc.

Obviously, the fact that a patent is present does not necessarily imply that the device will see the light. Regardless of this, however, you tease a smartphone Xiaomi with dual display?
