Huawei e Xiaomi are preparing to revolutionize the smartphone market with the introduction of innovative devices. Huawei has two major launch events planned in China this year. A new development suggests that another major smartphone brand is also working on a tri-foldable phone.

According to the tipster Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi is planning to launch a tri-fold phone. For those who don't know, a tri-fold phone is a type of foldable smartphone that boasts three distinct folding segments, allowing it to fold twice. Unlike traditional foldable phones, which fold in half, a tri-fold phone can unfold to create a much larger, tablet-like display. Huawei's tri-foldable phone is expected to offer around 10 inches of screen space when unfolded.

When folded, a tri-fold phone offers a more compact shape for easy portability. The design aims to give users both a smartphone and tablet experience in one device. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has not revealed any information about the device yet.

Xiaomi tri-fold

Xiaomi could present its tri-foldable phone at a major event such as the Mobile World Congress (MWC), scheduled for February 2025. Hopefully the rumor mill will provide more details towards the end of this year.

Recall that Xiaomi recently launched it Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. The same event saw the arrival of the company's first flip-style foldable phone, called Xiaomi Mix Flip.

The competition between Huawei and Xiaomi for dominance in the foldable smartphone market is set to intensify. By introducing tri-foldable phones, both companies aim to offer devices that combine the portability of a smartphone with the functionality of a tablet. This could mark a turning point in the way we use our mobile devices, offering greater flexibility and an improved user experience.
