Xiaomi will finally bring the USB 3.X standard to its devices for file transfers up to 500MB/s (leak)

As some of you know, the USB protocol of Xiaomi mobiles has always remained at version 2.0, and even the latest flagship models Xiaomi 13 and Redmi K60 Pro are no exception.

Xiaomi will finally bring the USB 3.X standard to its devices for file transfers up to 500MB/s (leak)

Well, well-known Chinese blogger Digital Chat Station this morning published an article claiming that this year's new phones and tablets from the top five Chinese manufacturers will be equipped with the USB 3.x standard, a big upgrade from the outdated USB 2.0. Although the blogger did not specify which manufacturer it is, Xiaomi is the only top five mobile phone manufacturer in China that still uses the USB 2.0 interface on its mobiles.

For the uninitiated, the theoretical maximum transfer rate of USB 2.0 interface is 480 Mbps, and the speed of USB 3.0 is 5,0 Gbps. Converted to the most commonly used units, i.e. 60MB/s and 625MB/s, but USB 3.0 uses 8b/10b encoding, and only 8 bits of each 10-bit encoding is actual transmission data, so the theoretical speed is 625MB /s, or multiplied by 0,8, which is 500 MB/s.

It is speculated that the main reason Xiaomi used USB 2.0 is that there are not so many users who need to transfer large files and most users don't really care as a feature. However, for users who use OTG function, the speed increase of USB 3.0 technology is very noticeable, especially for tablet users, who will also get a better experience when connecting to a computer to transfer files. In addition, there are more and more display devices that can be connected to the Type-C interface. For these reasons, many users have requested this feature from the brand.
