Xiaomi will not participate in the MWC 2017 in Barcelona

Samsung will not be the only major smartphone maker who will not announce a new device at the Mobile World Congress, the largest event dedicated to telecommunications industries. According to a Chinese company spokesman at the site TechCrunch, Xiaomi will totally miss the event.

The move is totally unexpected as it was largely assumed that Xiaomi was waiting. The Mobile World Congress, located in Barcelona, is one of the largest events for the global mobile industry, attracts more than 100.000 participants and is renowned for being the place to show the latest developments in the mobile industry.

Xiaomi used the exhibition of the last year to introduce the Mi 5, one of China's flagship companies, through a press conference that was broadcast live. In 2015, however, he raised his visibility in the West when Hugo Barra, then head of the international department, took part in an interview on stage, explaining more about the company, which was still under radar at that time, and of its activity.

As we all know, Barra announced a few days ago resigning from Xiaomi after 3 years and a half working and will move on Facebook to guide the efforts in VR - which, again according to TechCrunch, could be one of the reasons why Xiaomi will not be present at the MWC, but the main factor should be in not having new devices to present during the exhibition. This obviously would mean that rumors of the upcoming Mi 6 launch about the days of the event are not reliable.

However, this does not mark a step back or a sign that Xiaomi is allergic to events in the Western world. Xiaomi launched a new one Smart TV and talked about strategies at the CES in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, and we know that he intends to participate and promote events outside of China.

It was a challenging 2017 start for Xiaomi. Apart from the exit of Barra for health reasons and homesickness, CEO Lei Jun admitted that the Azian is entering a transition phase after growing too fast. Xiaomi, for the first time in its 5 years of history, did not reveal how many smartphones it sold last year, most likely because it did not see the same rapid growth of previous years.

We look forward to Xiaomi's moves in the face of these last facts. And you? What do you think about what's happening in Chinese companies lately?
