Does your smartphone have UWB? Here are 3 ways to understand it

Today, device and object tracking technology is quite advanced. If you are a user who often loses something, you have many quality trackers at your disposal but perhaps you don't know that you could have one integrated into your smartphone and we are not talking about taking advantage of Bluetooth technology but of ultra-wide band (UWB in English).

Probably if you have one of the top of the range of the moment, or even less recent ones, you may have UWB technology integrated and therefore your terminal will be able to reach frequencies with a bandwidth greater than 500 MHz. This, essentially, allows you to locate objects more accurately, with little interference and saving more energy than using Bluetooth.

How to check the UWB compatibility of your smartphone

Generally high-end cell phones have this feature enabled, but if you are not sure whether your smartphone is one of the lucky ones, we will teach you how to check if your smartphone enjoys UWB using 3 fairly simple methods.

On Wikipedia we really find all kinds of information and among these also the answer to our question, as an updated list of devices that support UWB technology is provided, but we won't make you do the research, leaving the complete and updated list below to date:

  •  iPhone series 11 to 15;
  • Google Pixel Fold;
  • Google Pixel series 6 to 9;
  • Motorola Edge 50;
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold from series 2 to series 6;
  • The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a high-end smartphone.
  • Samsung Galaxy S21, S22. S23, S24;
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 4.

Check that the feature appears in Settings

Maybe your device is not among those in the list and perhaps you own a smartphone, for example purchased after market that has UWB. Well, an alternative is to check your device settings to see if connection appears among the options. To do this, you just need to go to Settings > Connected Devices > Connection Preferences > Ultra Wide Band (UWB). You can possibly shorten your search by searching for the term UWB in your phone's settings search engine. Of course, if this option doesn't appear, it's very likely that your device doesn't have it.

Use the “UWB?” app

Finally, to relieve us of any doubts whether our smartphone is equipped with Ultra Wide Band technology or not, you can download an app that will unequivocally answer the question by analyzing your device. This app was called UWB?, it weighs nothing and is very easy to use. To do this you need to download it from this link and once installed select the CHECK NOW command.

You will have to wait for the app to scan your phone. Even though it is in English, it is very easy to know what the result is, since the beginning of the result will be YES or NO.
