Official Zepp OS and Huanshan 2S: everything you need to know about Huami's new SoC and operating system

From a simple company in the shadow of Xiaomi in the production of the most famous and worn fitness tracker in the world, or the Mi Band series, Huami has managed in a short time to build its own identity, showing its skills in the werabale market.

Today an event has just ended in which Huami has once again flexed its muscles, generating many concerns for rival brands in the sector, as among the innovations on the agenda we find the new proprietary chipset Huangshan 2S, a natural evolution of the previous generation that already carried interesting functions, integrating with the AI, but in addition to that Huami also presented its Zepp OS operating system.

Official Zepp OS and Huanshan 2S: everything you need to know about Huami's new SoC and operating system

The event took place near Hefei, in China and the theme on which the company focused was "The future of health". And Huami is addressing the future with its innovations starting precisely from the SoC Huangshan 2S, a new processor that will debut under the body of the brand's future wearables. We are talking about a dual-core CPU with RISC-V architecture which is flanked by a 2.5D GPU, also of its own production, which boasts 67% enhanced graphics acceleration compared to the last generation.

All this has repercussions in a greater fluidity of the system, in the recall of functions but above all in energy consumption, optimized by 18% compared to the previous SoC, obtaining a decrease in energy consumption by 56%, especially during the night phases in which the sleep, reducing consumption by up to -93%.

The combination with AI also makes it possible to detect certain pathologies such as atrial fibrillation more quickly. But to better manage Huami's new processor, the brand has seen fit to sew on it an ad hoc operating system, such Zepp OS, whose dogmas are fluidity, lightness and practicality.

Everything is based on the FreeRTOS kernel which takes up only 55 MB of memory, practically 1/10 compared to the traditional Amazfit software. Furthermore, as far as small screens are concerned, Zepp OS will allow frame rates that will exceed 60 fps, with more satisfying results from a visual as well as functional point of view, so much so that 150 new quadrants will be available, 15 of which are dynamic.

The new operating system will also allow greater integration with IoT connectivity and therefore to home automation in general, but above all to mobile payments by means of NFC, but before you warm your spirits with joy, know that at the moment there is no press release yet. on the possibility that these features also arrive for our market. On the other hand, it will be possible to interface the new smart watches with health equipment for more targeted checks such as those relating to blood glucose. Finally, thanks to the collaboration with GoPro, Huami's next wearables will be able to control the action cameras of the US manufacturer. Finally, always on the connectivity side, there is obviously no lack of 4G, 5G, eSIM and Wi-Fi support.
