After the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 flagship processor for smartphones, Qualcomm introduced two new products aimed at the laptop segment: Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3. The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 mobile processor is from85% faster than 8cx Gen 2 last year in terms of processing power (29 TOPS) and its graphics performance increased by 60% than before. Qualcomm says laptops based on this chip will support games Full HD up to 120 fps.
The SoC can rely on a modem Snapdragon X65 5G with a bandwidth of up to 10 Gbps. In addition, support for standards is implemented WiFi 6 and 6E with a connection speed of up to 3.8 Gbps. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is compatible with cameras with resolutions of sensor up to 24 megapixels. The cheaper Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 is made using a lithographic process at 6 nm and offers a 60% performance increase over its predecessor (7c Gen 2). The new laptop platform supports dual-band 5G networks and is equipped with a modem Snapdragon X52 5G, with a maximum connection speed of up to 3.7 Gbps.
Additionally, the laptop platform received native support for WiFi 6 and 6E (up to 2.9 Gbps). The processor with peak performance of 6.5 TOPS is compatible with the latest Windows 11 operating system. The new product includes support for the AI-based noise reduction system, as well as compatibility with Microsoft PlayReady 3.0. The manufacturer guarantees support for displays with resolutions up to Full HD +, as well as cameras with 64 megapixel sensors.
The first Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 and 8cx Gen 3 devices are expected to ship in first quarter of the 2022.
