How to send HD photos on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has introduced a novelty that many users have been waiting for: the ability to send images in high definition, or “HD”through the platform. This feature, announced by the CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, through its Instagram channel, represents a significant step forward for the messaging app. “Sharing photos on WhatsApp just got an upgrade. You can now send in HD."

Here's how to send photos in HD resolution on WhatsApp

The feature will be distributed globally in the next weeks. Users who will have access to this feature will be able to send images of higher quality and resolution (although probably still compressed compared to the original) both from Android, iOS and from the web. Recipients of the images will see a small icon indicating HD quality. And that's not all: Meta has announced that support for sending emails will also be available soon HD video.

Once users get access to this new feature, they will notice an “HD” icon when they will add a picture to a chat. This feature had been anticipated by some beta versions, as reported by BetaInfo. In the example shown by WABetaInfo, after tapping the HD icon, a “photo quality” menu appears offering two resolution options: Standard quality (1600 x 1052) and HD quality (4096 x 2692).

No specific details were given about how compressed the images will be and how they will look compared to sending images via Apple's iMessage or other competing platforms. However, it is important to note that the high quality images they will benefit from the same end-to-end encryption as WhatsApp.

For those with slow connections, it will be possible to choose whether keep the standard quality version or upgrade to the HD version. Also, sending standard quality images will remain the default option, delaying the inevitable need to free up space on your phone after receiving too many images in group chats.
