It was a bit of time that we did not hear about it MediaTek company that will be present at the new edition of the 2018 Mobile World Congress, officially introducing the new mid-range SoC, the Helio P60, the first processor of the manufacturer to be equipped with a multi-core AI processing unit (APU mobile) and a proprietary technology called AI MediaTek NeuroPilot.
Inside the SoC Helio P60 hides a 'octa-core architecture, realized with a FinFET production process at 12 nm and is divided into four cores ARM Cortex-A73 and four cores ARM Cortex-A53, with a clock frequency for all of 2 GHz allowing activities that require more power to use the A73 cores, while for lighter operations and requiring less workload to use the A53 cores achieving energy savings and thus preserve the battery life.
Even the chip dedicated to graphics is better than the previous solutions adopted by the manufacturer, in fact Helio P60 adopts one GPU Mali-G72 MP3 clocked up to 800 MHz. It is twice as efficient with graphics processing performance of 280GMAC / s.
THE NEW MEDIATEK HELIO P60 PROMISES THE BEST PERFORMANCE AND MINOR ENERGY CONSUMPTION
The new configuration of the Helio P60 and its eight cores allows a increase in performance up to 70% compared to the previous Helio P23 and P30 models and, thanks to the use of the NeuroPilot AI technology, energy efficiency is optimized to the maximum reducing consumption while offering maximum performance, saving up to 500mW of power or the 18% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous generation. MediaTek's NeuroPilot SDK supports Neural Networks Android APIs and some of the more common IA frameworks, such as TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe and Caffe2.
Significant improvements have also been reserved from the photographic point of viewIn fact, Helio P60 integrates three ISPs with support for configuring a double rear camera with modules up to 16 MP + 20 MP or just one module from 23 MP. Integration with an APU will allow you to take advantage of some interesting features such as object recognition, AR + VR technologies, photo editing and video preview in real time and much more.
Finally, MediaTek Helio P60 includes a LTE WorldMode 4G modem, equipped with a dual 4G VoLTE antenna and TAS 2.0 to provide seamless global connectivity. The first smartphones equipped with this new processor will be available from the beginning of the second quarter of the 2018. Perhaps the presence of Xiaomi at MWC 2018 could be aimed at the adoption of this SoC in the next entry-level device? After all, Xiaomi is one of the few companies that has managed to make the most of MediaTek chipsets such as the Redmi Note 4.
