Simplification of SIM activation and release
September 27, 2023 marked a turning point: the Commission for Infrastructure and Networks of AGCOM has sanctioned a significant change in the procedures for activating and managing SIM cards. The decision to allow the use of SPID, CIE and CNS (Law 11 September 2020, n.120) for identity verification during SIM activation or change processes.
The same applies to the mobile number portability (or MNP). This represents a tangible advancement towards a more digitalized and secure era in managing your telephone credentials.

Not only that: this digitalisation, by moving the entire procedure into a secure virtual environment, precludes opportunities for fraud which exploit the lack of security in traditional physical and digital channels.
What changes for operators
For operators, this change represents a challenge and an opportunity. They are called to modify and update the agreement for the application of the rules relating to mobile number portability, while ensuring that the user journey is as simple and secure as possible. All this with the aim of preventing phenomena such as SIM swapping, without forgetting to guarantee a satisfactory user experience free from bureaucratic obstacles.
