MediaTek buys part of Intel - its power management chip business

We very often thought that MediaTek was less than Qualcomm. In fact, in the last period the processors of the Taiwanese company have made a lot of talk about themselves. Think of the Dimension 1000+ that for poco did not exceed the Snapdragon 865 in terms of benchmark scores. In any case, the Asian giant has no intention of letting its American competitor steal fertile ground and for this reason it has decided to buy a part of Intel. In particular, for a good 85 million dollars, the giant would have taken the business of power management chips. And Intel? It is being dismembered slowly, even Apple has drawn from his hat.

After Apple, MediaTek also takes over a part of Intel: now its part of the business related to chips for power management of processors

Let's go through the Intel history of the last period. Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), for a long time he thought about breaking away from Qualcomm for modems to be equipped on their iPhone. For some time, both parts of Intel and Qualcomm have been used by the Cupertino company but recently, after the agreement between Apple and the latter, Intel had to step aside and sold its “wing” that managed the modem sector for about 1 billion dollars. Now it's the turn of MediaTek, which acquired the wing used for power management chip.

MediaTek buys part of Intel - its power management chip business

The name of this sector acquired by MediaTek is called Empirion and in a nutshell it provides an integrated high frequency power supply solution for FPGA, SoC, CPU and ASIC circuits. To put it simply, the division offers tools for power management for chips in devices with a battery. The acquisition was made through the subsidiary Richtek and aims to improve the Taiwanese manufacturer's overall scale of operations. In general the changes will not be too big, but the hope is that the Taiwanese giant will regain ground and competitiveness.
