OnePlus abandons File Dash to make room for Google Nearby Share

OnePlus it has some very interesting system applications but it happens that Google, for various reasons, replace them. Clearly, the monopoly is his and not that of the individual companies as the operating system is his property (in simple terms). Between applications poco known but very useful there is, or rather there was, Dash file. It is a service for the wireless data transfer which, however, is missing on the new smartphones of the 9 series. What happens?

OnePlus 9 (complete series) does not have File Dash: users notice a replacement with the counterpart Google Nearby Share. Why?

According to what some have discovered users on reddit, on the new OnePlus 9 series there would be no application and File Dash service to wirelessly transport data and apps from one device to another. This functionality perhaps is poco known but very helpful and the team of XDA Developers he thought of contacting the company for clarification. The answer was this:

“To provide a smoother file transfer experience between Android devices, we have replaced the 'File Dash' feature with the 'Nearby Sharing' feature provided by Google. Users can go to Settings, click “Google”, then click “Device Connections”. Users can then click "Nearby Sharing" to transfer files. If the other device does not support sharing nearby, users can transfer files via Bluetooth or other third-party applications ”.

OnePlus to the XDA Developers team

The convenience of Dash file is that does not require a Google account and you don't need a OnePlus device to receive shared files. Has been introdotto with OxygenOS 3.5.5 on series 3 at the end of 2016 and is still available for OnePlus 8T users as of the latest update available from Google Play (2.6.4.0). However, the function now missing on the 9 series with version 2.6.4.5 of the app.

Recall that Google is improving sharing on Nearby Share with the arrival of Android 12.
